Our Preps have nearly reached the end of their first term at school and we in the swing of learning! It has been amazing to see the students getting themselves organised at the beginning of each day and becoming more independent!

Word Study:

Our students have been learning the most common sound for 18 letters of the alphabet. We have been using our knowledge of these sounds to participate in various activities such as handwriting, sounding out simple 3 letter words and word manipulation using letter tiles. The students have recently started to have a go at dictation.

Writing:

The Preps have been learning about alliteration. We used our mentor text Pig the Pug and brainstormed different animals that begin with the same sound as the first letter of our names. We then created our own class book using alliteration.

Maths:

This term the students have been focusing on knowing numbers and counting collections. Over the past couple of weeks we have explored numbers through using tens frames, numbers lines and bundles. Students have been learning to name 'teen' numbers as 'ten and how many more'. This has been the basis of our study of numbers to 20 and this common language has been fantastic to help students develop their understanding of numbers.
