Celebrating the growth in our wonderful children on each learning level...
This week in Prep, we excitedly launched Show & Tell! The children loved bringing in toys and special personal items to share with their classmates. Each student stood proudly in front of the class and spoke about their item, while their peers listened carefully and asked curious questions. It was a lovely opportunity for students to build confidence, practise speaking in front of others, and develop their listening skills. The Preps did an amazing job and we can’t wait to continue these sessions throughout the term!

In Week 3, Year 1 students started the academic curriculum. Their teachers have been incredibly impressed with how enthusiastically they have participated in lessons and embraced new learning. Not only have they been building their subject knowledge across the curriculum, but they have also been introduced to exciting new apps, including myON, MyNumeracy and Maths Invaders. We have been particularly proud of how quickly they have learned their Maths Invaders routine, playing one focused game in school to put their mental maths skills to the test. It has been wonderful to see them listening carefully and following their teacher’s instructions straight away which is Our Big 10 number 1 —such a positive and mature start to their Year 1 journey!

Our Year 2 students have been enjoying our science unit: Kids in the Kitchen. They have explored the Food Circle to understand the different food groups. Students investigated their own lunchboxes to see what food groups they had been eating throughout the day.
The highlight of our science unit so far has to be making mashed potatoes! Students used their muscles to mash potatoes. All of our Year 2 students seemed to be big fans of salt, which they were eager to add to their mashed potatoes. There were many smiles when they tucked into the food they had made. The students are well on their way to becoming master chefs in the kitchen!

Our Year 3 students have enjoyed learning about a new program called Accelerated Reader. This week, they learned their AR ranges. They have their own bookmarks to support them with the decimals within their ranges. Students have enjoyed browsing the library shelves to find books that match their AR ranges and interest them. They are now working towards finishing their chosen books, comprehending the story and taking an AR quiz. Their enthusiasm for this program is wonderful to see.

Year 5 enjoyed their excursion to South Melbourne Market. Students walked through the stalls, looking at a range of food options and handmade items, and learning more about how the market operates. As part of the visit, students completed a scavenger hunt, which encouraged them to explore different areas of the market, read information carefully, and ask questions of stallholders. This supported their understanding of how businesses work and helped them gather ideas for their own market project at school. Thank you to our parent volunteers for supporting the day and helping everything run smoothly. It was an enjoyable and valuable learning experience for all involved.
Students have been absolutely loving their Library visits on a Thursday! There has been a real buzz of excitement as students borrow and get stuck into new books. All students now have their updated reading ranges and AR targets, and it has been fantastic to see the ownership they are taking over their reading goals. Many students have made a plan to read books they’re interested in and will get them enough points for their target. We love seeing the growing list of titles being recorded in diaries each morning. Keep up the fantastic reading, Year 6!
