Library News

As we cross past the middle of Term 1, it has been wonderful to see familiar faces in the library during recess and lunchtimes. Students have been enjoying board games, borrowing books, colouring and drawing, or simply having a good chat. As the term continues, we're thrilled to see so many students making the library part of their daily routine at school.

A Warm Welcome to First-Time Visitors! If you haven't visited the library yet this term, or perhaps ever then we would love to meet you. Whether you're looking for a quiet place to study, want to discover a new book, need help finding resources for an assignment, or just fancy a change of scenery, the library is open and ready to welcome you. No appointment needed, just walk in during our opening hours and say hello.

The library belongs to everyone in our school community, and we're here to help you find what you need. Come see what you've been missing.

Opening hours:

The opening hours for the library are 8.30am to 4.00pm.  We encourage students to use the library before and after school as well as during recess and lunch time.

Returns Reminder:

Parents and students are reminded to please return any books borrowed from the school library last year. If you're unsure whether you have outstanding loans, feel free to ask at the library desk during recess or lunchtime.

Important: Some students still have books from 2025 that haven't been returned. These students may have recently received Compass notifications and emails reminding them to return the book as soon as possible.

Book Review by Clara R. 12A:

Sabriel by Garth Nix is a book which is destined to be on of your favourite all time books.  In my opinion, what makes Garth Nix one of the best fantasy authors is his ability to create such detailed and intriguing settings that seem so real.

The magic system of Sabriel is incredibly unique and revolves around two types of magic - free magic and the charter magic.  While free magic is dangerous and generally a force of evil, charter magic is a force of order employed by people such as Sabriel, the hero of the story.

Sabriel’s father is a good necromancer who protects the Old Kingdom from the dead who have returned to life.  Other necromancers wield free magic and raise the dead.  Sabriel is an epic quest in a unique world that you will not want to leave.

Fortunately, it is the first of six books in the series, all of which are equally amazing and can be found in the school library.
