Visual Arts and Clubs

Foundation
Foundation students have started to establish routines and procedures in the art room and are getting familiar with the learning expectations in a Visual Art session. They have explored techniques when using coloured pencils that will allow for efficient mixing of primary colours to create secondary colours. Students have learned the difference between ‘actual’ texture and ‘implied’ texture and experienced drawing rough, smooth, bumpy/lumpy, soft and hard implied textures. They have started to act on the feedback given to them to improve their artwork and are gaining more confidence to seek feedback. This week saw them start an artwork about themselves which will demonstrate their skills in using the visual elements.
Year 1 and 2
Students have been focussed on planning their mixed media artwork, identifying their likes, things they celebrate and goals they have for the future. After they have explored and experimented with the visual elements, they identified the most effective texture, colour and lines to communicate aspects of themselves. Students have identified media (materials) they would like to use for their artwork and have started drafting what their final piece will look like.
Year 3 to 6
Students have been developing an art piece based on their various character traits in different situations. They have made connections to colours and lines for each character trait. Students conducted experiments using combinations of media (materials) to create different textures to visually communicate their personality traits. They have started planning what their final artwork will look like, making note of where and why they will incorporate specific colours, lines and textures.
Sewing Club- Term 1
Sewing Club has been incredibly popular, with an overwhelming number of students wanting to join, resulting in the approach of each term being available for a different year level: Term 1- Year 4, Term 2- Year 5, Term 3- Year 6.
So far, students have selected the fabric they would like to use for their rabbit plushie and traced the pattern onto the fabric. Students have demonstrated great resilience to use scissors to cut a range of fabric, recognising that it is indeed a tricky task.
The next few weeks will hopefully see students stitch the pieces together ready for the stuffing in the final week of term. Ideally each student will take home a finished rabbit plushie at the end of this term.
Expert Art- Selected Year 2 and 3 students
Selected Year 2 and 3 students have been dedicating themselves to an additional art session each week, focussing on developing their critical and creative thinking skills as well as their hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. Each week, they have reflected on the knowledge and skills they have gained, and set themselves a goal to achieve in the future. Currently they are working on hand sewing, successfully learning how to thread the eye of the needle, tie a knot and blanket stitch two pieces of fabric together.
