Principal's Report

After five weeks at school, our Foundation students have made a fantastic start to school life. They are quickly learning the daily routines and are enjoying their specialist lessons. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow each day as they settle into classroom expectations, build new friendships and develop independence. They are learning how to be active listeners, careful writers and respectful classmates. We are incredibly proud of the way they are embracing new challenges with enthusiasm and curiosity. Thank you to our families for supporting smooth morning routines and reinforcing school expectations at home. This partnership makes a significant difference in helping students thrive.
Recently, we recognised our Year 6 leaders at our whole school assembly. They proudly received their leadership badges from Mr John Mullahy, our local Member of Parliament. We wish them a fantastic year ahead as they step into their leadership roles. A big thank you to the parents and family members who were able to join us for this special occasion – it was wonderful to have so many family members present at our assembly.
Every child in the school is enrolled in the Mathletics Maths program and each child has an individual username and password. The Mathletics Maths program is internet based and can be accessed from home 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Staff will set specific maths tasks for students to complete; these tasks will appear for children to complete first when they log in. Children can then complete other maths tasks at their level and work through the program at their own pace.
In the mornings before school, students should enter the school grounds from 8.45 am. Importantly, Staff are on yard duty at this time. When students enter school grounds before 8.45 am, they must be accompanied by a parent or carer. This is a parent's responsibility. Students who enter the school grounds before 8.45 am without a parent or carer are unsupervised and at risk. Thank you to the many families who cooperate with the school to keep our children safe. Please note, for families who need to drop off their children before 8:45 am, the school provides an Out of School Hours Care program (Before and After School Care) managed by TeamKids. Registration is via our school website.
Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up – Hall Area
A reminder to all families that the hall driveway is a designated drop-off and pick-up zone only. It is not a parking area.
To ensure the safety of all students and maintain traffic flow:
• Parents and carers must remain in their vehicles while in the drop-off zone.
• Vehicles should not be left unattended at any time.
• Students must exit the vehicle from the left-hand (footpath) side only.
• If you need to park and leave your car, please park outside the school .
These procedures help us keep students safe and ensure the area runs efficiently during busy times. We appreciate your cooperation and support in modelling safe practices for our students.
Parking and Safe Driving
Please remember that speed restrictions in school zones are now back in place, and parking and no-standing restrictions around the school need to be observed. These regulations are enforced by the Whitehorse and Monash City Councils.
Important Information - Student Accident and Private Property Insurance Reminder
The Department of Education and government schools do not provide personal accident insurance for students. Parents and Carers are generally responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including any transport costs. Reasonable, low-cost accident insurance policies are available from the commercial insurance sector. The Department of Education also does not hold insurance, nor does it accept responsibility for private property brought to school by students, staff and visitors.
Students are advised not to bring any unnecessary or particularly valuable items to school and are not allowed to bring any electronic toys and games to school. Please ensure that you have Ambulance cover as this is not covered by the school or the Department.
Breakfast Club runs every Friday morning in the hall through our Foodbank Victoria program which has been a great success over many years. Foodbank also provide a fresh supply of carrots and apples for our students on a fortnightly basis. As always, we welcome parent volunteers to support this weekly program which promotes social interaction, healthy eating and our students’ wellbeing. Please contact April at school if you can volunteer.
Pending Industrial Action
You may be aware that there is potential industrial action involving teachers in the coming weeks. At this stage, the action is pending and we are awaiting further information. We understand that this may cause some uncertainty for families. Please be assured that the school is closely monitoring the situation and is committed to minimising disruption to student learning wherever possible. Should the industrial action proceed, we will communicate specific details about any changes to school operations as soon as they are confirmed. Further information is contained below.
