Foundation News

Dear Parents and Carers,
The Foundation students are really trying to follow the morning routines, and we congratulate them for being fantastic Self-managers as they unpack bags, place green folders into the basket and sit quietly around the prayer cloth each day.
As members of a Faith Community, we have been exploring the significance of Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday as the season of Lent begins in the Catholic Church. On Shrove Tuesday, we were lucky enough to make pancakes and choose the toppings we liked. We learnt that in the past, pantry items were used up in preparation for fasting during Lent. Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent, and we participated in a prayer liturgy last Thursday, where we received the ashes on our foreheads. Together we explored the significance of Ash Wednesday and viewed pictures and slides that have explained the importance of this special day. Did you know that Lent lasts for 40 Days and the colour purple will be evident in the church and in the clothing that the priest wears?
As Inquirers, we are learning about our school Agreed Ways and how we can be safe, happy and contribute to a positive learning environment at St Fidelis. Whilst unpacking our Agreed Way,s we have been discussing what these look like in action. The students have demonstrated their knowledge of this in their books through drawing images for each of the agreed ways. We are so proud to see them putting these into action in the classroom and outside during play.
This week we are learning to….
Reading/phonics: link the sounds /m/ and /s/ to the letters m and s
Writing: write about things we have seen or done using our letter/sound knowledge
Numeracy: sequence the days of the week and identify times of the day
Inquiry: understand what it means to be a positive collaborator and communicator
Religion: identify the symbols of prayer
TRP: Understand how acts of kindness benefit both the giver and receiver (Empathy)
