Year 5/6 Cluster News

HOME INQUIRY:

Reading: Aim for 20 minutes minimum reading per night. We encourage students to read aloud, either to themselves or a parent.

Mathematics: We are aiming to learn all our multiplication facts up to x12 by the end of the year. If your child can recall all of them, they can switch over to their division facts.

Ideas to practice:  You may like to create flash cards or skip count aloud with your child to help support their learning with this.

Inquiry: We are currently in the middle of our unit on advertising. It would be great if you could take notice of the slogans and logos you see in shops, on products, and in the media. Discussing what works well and what doesn’t will help support their thinking as they begin planning their own logo and slogan for their group business project.

Year 6 Graduation:We would like to share a photo gallery of the graduating class on graduation night. We need 2 photos of your child to show how they have grown up into the students we know today. Please include a baby photo and first day of school photo.  These photos can be emailed to Mrs Zadow (Zadow.jayne@goldengrove.sa.edu.au). Please send these through by the end of the week.  We are finalising details for the Graduation Dinner at Dimples, Tea Tree Gully Golf Course on Wednesday, November 26th. This is a wonderful night to honour and share with our Year 6 families! More information will be available soon.

Current and Upcoming Learning

Reader’s Workshop:  Students will be using Reader’s Workshop as an opportunity to read different texts that will inform their understanding of advertising techniques and we will also have time to enjoy free choice reading, to continue to foster their love of reading.

Writer’s Workshop: We continue to explore poetry and Ballards, examining how poetic devices are used in advertising. We are continuing our study of writing techniques commonly found in advertisements.

Mathematics: Students have spent this week revising their knowledge of the four operations. Next week we will then begin to spend time retrieving our statistics and data knowledge and incorporating this into our advertising and business unit.

Inquiry: Our classes are in the middle of the inquiry: Media influences the way we think and view the world which is in the transdisciplinary theme of ‘How we Express Ourselves’.

Got Odd Socks? 5/6FZ Needs Them! If you have any odd socks lying around at home, we’d love to take them off your hands! One of our students in 5/6FZ has a creative project in mind and is looking to repurpose them. Please consider donating any clean, mismatched socks to our classroom. Thank you for your support!
