Environment and Sustainability Term 4 News

Firstly, a big thank you to the school community members that volunteer their time to support our Kitchen Garden and our Farm 2 Table Program. It is so wonderful for the students to gather, harvest, cook and share fresh food for and with their families. Many thanks to Yvonne, our garden volunteer who supports our garden and waters the plants while we are away. She has amazing knowledge of the plants in the garden and shares her knowledge and passion openly. We are very grateful for her support. The Spring flowers are starting to bloom and the Kitchen Garden and School Garden look amazing! We have to thank Jack and Peter who also help with the gardens, we are very grateful for their support. A last thanks goes to Bunnings who continue to support our Kitchen Garden.
The students have been busy at Garden Club this term planting, and weeding as they observe the seasonal changes within the garden. The Grade 5 and 6 students explored the kitchen garden with younger students at Garden Club while taking them on a nature scavenger hunt around the garden. This was a good way to reintroduce the students to the kitchen garden while searching for different things such as interesting shaped leaves, a fairy wand and a magical pebble. The Environment Leaders and garden helpers have been busy planting and attending to the garden beds - some planting includes: zucchini, spinach, lettuce, tomato, and beans. Some plants are already looking very ready for Farm to Table. We have also observed life cycles such as our lettuce going to flower. The students have enjoyed harvesting and taking home some Parsley and Nasturtiums flowers from our very giving Nasturtium bed. The sunset coloured flowers signal Spring is here!
We look forward to great gardening weather for the Garden Club for Term 4! We would welcome any new volunteers to the garden. Please contact the office if you are interested in helping out. Many thanks. Trish Magree
Rubbish Free Lunches
We would like to thank families for supporting our Rubbish Free program. Well done to Grade 3 SM for winning the Rubbish Free Sparkly Lunch Box Award in Term 3! We encourage families to pack lunches with little or no packaging to ensure our school is kept tidy and clean and to support the natural environment. We are currently taking a tally to see which class has the highest number of rubbish free lunches. The winners will receive The Sparkly Lunch Box Award! Good luck everyone.
Many thanks for supporting our school and the wider environment in caring for our home.
