Role Descriptions

These role descriptions are to detail the roles and responsibilities of positions within the College that are available for staff to apply for annually in addition to their normal duties

Year Level Leader

Role: Year Level Leaders work directly with students, families and staff to support the everyday learning, engagement, behaviour and wellbeing needs of our students. They coordinate one-off and ongoing interventions to provide wrap-around support for individuals, classes and the year level. They facilitate Year Level check-ins, assemblies, events and programs to build connection and engagement in the school. 

 

Responsibilities include but are not restricted to the following: 

 

Daily:

  • Check their daily and weekly calendars and plan/adjust the shape of their day and the members of their team. This includes, being a pro-active member of the Sub School support roster (including detentions) to deal with daily incidents, reflections and referrals, and other things as needed.

  • Monitor individual students who have extra support plans in place or who are on Daily Progress Cards, modified Time Tables or adjusted programs to make sure all stakeholders know what is expected. 

  • Monitor daily classroom referrals and work through the flow chart as needed.

  • Monitor daily incidents on Compass and follow up where needed (includes commenting on the post with any action taken or the follow-up needed). 

  • Check-in, talk to and communicate with teachers and other staff members as needed throughout the day. 

  • Walk through the buildings, lockers and yard areas to support a calm and orderly environment, and to build connection with students and staff. 
  • Checking and following up on uniform (includes taking off hoodies/ non-uniform items and supporting students to get the correct uniform).
  • Modelling school-wide expectations for teachers (e.g. Instructional Model, SWPBS processes, meeting attendance).
  • Working through behaviour incidents which includes talking to students, getting written statements, finding camera footage, contacting parents and working out the next steps.

     

Weekly

  • Monitoring students on Daily Progress Cards, Check-in Check-out cards, including follow-up phone calls, discussions with students and teachers, celebrating success and/or initiating further interventions as needed. 
  • Work with the Attendance Officer to monitor student lateness, ensuring consequences and follow-up as needed. 
  • Work with the Sub School Leader to monitor student attendance and follow-up as needed (including making SALPs).  
  • Discuss possible consequence (including suspensions) with the Sub School Leader and follow-up as needed with them (including communication, documentation and follow-up). 
  • Actively participate in routine meetings including: Case Management meetings with the Sub School Leader, Tier 1 SWPBS meetings, Sub School check-ins and Sub School meetings. 
  • Create in- and out-of-classroom supports as needed (including seating plans, classroom strategies and supports and others as needed - i.e. Tier 2 and 3 interventions). 
  • Monitoring students at-risk academically and responding as needed (e.g. redemption forms, pathway discussions, catch-up work, etc)
  • Monitoring individual student and class behaviour (e.g. check-ins, parent and staff communication and documentation on Compass) 
  • Organising, running and ensuring ongoing follow-up for student/ parent meetings for students at risk (including learning, behaviour, engagement and/ or wellbeing).
  • Work with the Personal Learning and Stamina teachers on a weekly basis to support lesson design and delivery, and provide advice, guidance and support as needed.

     

Termly/ Semesterly 

  • Assembly timetabling, planning and coordinating (every term, including celebrations, awards and notices as needed). 
  • Organising term and SWPBS awards, celebrations and excursions.  
  • Overseeing locker assignment and movement as needed.
  • Organising year level events, excursions and camps. 
  • Working with the Sub School Leader to review report data and make plans for support and extension (and at-risk students)
  • Overseeing students who join the school as late enrolments through the year (includes tour, locker, timetable, building connection, setting up peer buddies, regular check-ins and engaging supports as needed). 
  • Lead the Personal Learning teachers to ensure units of learning that are sequenced, planned and responsive. Providing feedback and guidance, as well as in-classroom support. 
  • Collaborate on and contribute to alternative timetables including practice exam timetables, Head Start timetables, end of year events and work experience timetables. 
  • Work with the Sub School leader to prepare and plan for transition each year (including handover of notes, class groups and locker changes). 
  • Other duties as required by the Principal.

Social Worker - Junior Sub-School

 

Role: The social worker is responsible for supporting our students, families and community to enhance their well-being and address their needs through providing individual counselling, small-group programs, connecting families with external  agencies and supporting the facilitation of programs.

  • Providing support for Junior school students  to improve student engagement and connectedness (including supporting reflections, working with students on Check-in Check-Out or other intervention programs)
  • Case management of assigned Tier 2 students as directed by the Sub-School Leader
  • Building and running targeted Tier 2 intervention programs
  • Coordinating with year level and sub-school leaders to communicate with families regarding students in intervention programs
  • Assisting with the facilitation of programs and activities including Breakfast club and lunchtime activities
  • Facilitate and manage the Student Leadership Program - including facilitate and developing Student Leadership days, managing the process of appointment of student leaders, considering opportunities for leadership development to ensure succession planning, and facilitating regular Student Leadership meetings
  • Maintain regular updates in college newsletter and social media relating to student leadership matters
  • Other duties as required by the Principal

Chaplain - Junior Sub-School

 

Role: School Chaplains support the unique mental, social, spiritual and emotional needs of the school community; they provide holistic care. They help build school communities that are connected, supported and whole.

Family Liaison Officer  - Junior Sub-School

 

Role: The Family Liaison Officer is responsible for providing counselling to students and working collaboratively with families/services and the community to increase student attendance and improve mental health well-being. 

 

Jo works closely with Junior Sub-school to provide support with ‘at risk’ students and convene regular care team meetings with parents and service providers.

Responsibilities include but are not restricted to the following: 

  • Work mainly with Year 7 students, focusing on general (Tier 1) and targeted (Tier 2) support, with some higher-level (Tier 3) cases as needed.
  • Help support student transition to specialist schools, such as Jacana School of Autism.
  • Prioritise students with care teams or high support needs.
  • Help plan and run the Year 7 Camp.
  • Support the planning and delivery of weekly Personal Learning sessions.
  • Assist with staffing the Café during lunchtimes.
  • Work with external agencies and help organise care plan meetings.
  • Support the JSS team with student referrals, reflections, and communication.
  • Help with the Year 6–7 transition process, including visiting feeder primary schools and meeting incoming students.
  • Attend Merri-bek Youth Network meetings to strengthen community partnerships.
  • Support extra transition and orientation activities such as welcome evenings and Grade 6 interviews.
  • Other duties as required by the Principal

Community Engagement - Junior Sub-School

 

Role: To work collaboratively with all feeder primary schools in particular targeting grade 4 and 5 by increasing the interactions with Glenroy College.

  • To be able to promote Glenroy College within the primary schools and use our media publications to update the wider community.
  • To continue to visit feeder primary schools for transition and take students from year 7 to visit each primary school and talk about their experience settling into Glenroy College and what activities/subjects are at Glenroy College.

Responsibilities include but are not restricted to the following: 

  • Build stronger links with feeder primary schools through visits and shared activities.
  • Work with different learning areas to offer programs like Art, DigiTech, Foods, Sport, and Media.
  • Help promote Glenroy College through social media and school publications like the Yearbook.
  • Organise for Year 7 students and the Principal to visit former primary schools during term 1 and share their experiences and avdise for transition to high school.
  • Help run school events such as:
    • Maths and DigiTech Olympics
    • Science Fair
    • STEM Leaders
    • Swimming and Athletics Carnivals
  • Set up a mentoring program where Year 9 students support Year 7s.
  • Run an outreach program with nearby primary schools where our students help with activities like sport, reading, or art.
  • Other duties as required by the Principal

 

Reports to:  Assistant Principal - Professional Learning, Junior School Engagement

 

Wellbeing Coordinator - Senior Sub-School

 

Role: The Wellbeing Coordinator is responsible for counselling students and developing action plans for individual cases. They also assist leadership teams with the management of critical incidents and emergency wellbeing situations. They contribute to the development and implementation of procedures and policies regarding the wellbeing of students, and following DET policies.

Responsibilities include but are not restricted to the following: 

  • Providing support for Senior school students and families to improve student engagement and connectedness
  • Support the SSS team with student referrals, reflections, and communication.
  • Conducting activities with students to promote a safe and inclusive learning environment including the Active Policing Unit, Headspace, Lega Aide
  • Work with external agencies and help organise care plan meetings.
  • Act in the role of Lookout Officer, supporting the needs of OOHC students
  • Support DET attendance compliance, including exemptions
  • Assisting with the facilitation of programs and activities including Breakfast club, the Cafe and lunchtime/after school activities activities
  • Liaising with families and external agencies to support student learning and individual needs
  • Building community partnerships
  • Maintain regular updates in college newsletter and social media relating to student leadership matters
  • Assisting with the management of critical incidents and emergencies
  • Triaging, monitoring refferals from the SWEPBS Tier 2/3 team to the Specialist Wellbeing team:
    • Psychologist
    • Mental Health Practicioner
    • DISS Doctor
    • DISS Nurse
    • DET Nurse
    • Headspace
    • Placement psychologists
  • Oversee and support programs run by the Specialist Wellbeing team, including the Dental Van, Anaphylaxis/Asthma training, Headspace
  • Other duties as required by the Principal
