There is lot’s of wonderful learning in Grade 2. Read below to find out more:

🔢 Mathematics

Over the last few weeks, our focus has been on problem solving using the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Students are becoming detectives, reading worded questions and figuring out what they need to do to calculate an answer. We have been working on developing a number of different strategies to best solve these problems.

📖 Literacy

In Literacy, we continue our daily practice of phonograms, spelling, and grammar rules through the Spalding program. Students have enjoyed stepping up their learning of their spelling words and phonograms through the use of crosswords and wordsearches.

In our writing sessions, we are exploring narratives. Students particularly enjoyed writing a free choice narrative, allowing their imaginations to run wild. To finish the year we will explore persuasive texts once more where we will endeavour to solidify our previous learning on how best to be convincing.

In reading, we have been completing a class text, Matilda. Students have loved listening to their teacher read each chapter and then dig deeper into various characters and plot twists. We cannot wait to hear how it ends!

🌱 Integrated Studies: Then and Now

Students have been exploring the differences and similarities between their lives and the lives of their parents and grandparents. We have also examined how the past affects the present.

📖 Wellbeing

Students have been keen participants in our weekly wellbeing sessions. This term our focus has been on respect and consent.  We have specifically explored respecting each other's bodies and personal space, using a variety of scenarios to explore the best way to respect our friends and family. There has been some wonderful discussion on how we can best respect others as well as ourselves.

It has been a wonderful start to the term and we look forward to the adventures ahead. Thanks for all your support,

The Grade 2 Teaching Team
