Learning in Year 6

Year 6 Learning Update
In English, students have been showcasing their creativity and versatility through a special writing project that demonstrates seven different writing styles, representing each year of primary school. This has been a wonderful opportunity for students to reflect on their growth as writers and to experiment with a variety of genres and tones.
In Mathematics, students have been exploring the world of statistics and data representation. They have learned to collect, analyse, and present data using a range of graph types, including column, bar, line, and stem-and-leaf plots. This hands-on approach has helped them understand how data can be interpreted and used to make informed conclusions.
In Integrated Studies, students are focusing on their “Future Self” project. They have begun researching potential careers, exploring the benefits, salary expectations, and training pathways such as TAFE or university. Building on this, students will investigate the costs of living independently by researching units or apartments to rent and comparing different bank loans, considering factors like duration, interest rates, and fixed or variable options.
The unit continues with students developing a budget plan, taking into account everyday expenses such as food, insurance, utilities, and rates. Finally, they will explore the process of purchasing a car, applying for a loan, and calculating the ongoing costs of ownership, including registration, fuel, insurance, and maintenance.
The latter part of the term will see students compiling a Graduation Book to celebrate their years at primary school. This special keepsake will include photographs, reflections, and messages capturing their memories and achievements throughout their primary years. This comprehensive program provides students with valuable real-world skills and a meaningful opportunity to celebrate their learning journey as they prepare for secondary school.
