Learning in Year 4

What's being happening in Year 4?

From shining on stage in production, to zooming through the Colour Run with Miss Hamilton getting SLIMED and the whole school reward of Student vs Teacher tag!

The sunshine has returned..just about, which means hats on heads every day, please.

As the sneezes and sniffles of hayfever roll in, we would love it if families could send in a box of tissues to help keep our classroom happy and healthy.

Literacy

The Year 4 students have been busy poets, exploring many different forms of poetry and the unique rules each one follows. Throughout our unit, we have enjoyed creating acrostic poems, playing with alliteration, counting syllables in haikus, crafting diamante poems, experimenting with colour poems, and so much more. We have loved watching our ideas take shape on the page and expressing our thoughts in creative and imaginative ways.

We have also started to read our new class novel book study -The Lion, Witch and Wardrobe series.

Maths

In Mathematics the Year 4 students have been exploring probability and developing their understanding of chance. They have been learning to describe and compare the likelihood of everyday events using language such as certain, likely, unlikely, and impossible. Students have enjoyed experimenting with spinners, dice, cards and everyday scenarios to make predictions and test outcomes and explaining why some events are more likely to happen than others with a focus on independent and dependent events.

We have also been busy revising all of our maths concepts learning across this year.

Integrated

This term, we are currently learning about what life was like for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples before European settlement, and why the British came to Australia. Students will explore how the arrival of the First Fleet affected communities and daily life, and will learn to consider different perspectives in Australia’s history.

We are looking forward to our upcoming excursion to Musuem where we wil explore the First Peoples Gallery.
