WORK EXPERIENCE REFLECTION
MARVIN - YEAR 10 STUDENT
My name is Marvin, and I was recently fortunate enough to participate in a unique and rewarding work experience program in Melbourne. This opportunity took me to the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI), a 110-year-old medical research facility located next to the University of Melbourne and the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
During my five-day stay at WEHI, I had the invaluable opportunity to collaborate with a number of postdoctoral researchers in the field of immunology. This included performing fundamental experiments in a modern laboratory environment equipped with advanced and highly specialised equipment. In addition to my hands-on lab work, I also spent time chatting with a number of professors, PhD candidates and medical students, gaining insights into their experiences and career paths.
These discussions provided me with invaluable advice and significantly strengthened my motivation to pursue a career in medicine. I would like to express my gratitude to Mrs. Anna Steicke, who was instrumental in ensuring that I was able to participate in this very meaningful program, and to all those who supported me throughout the five days of my internship. This experience is truly a unique opportunity for students considering a career in medicine, as it has further strengthened my commitment to my chosen path.
