What's On In 5/6

Writer’s Workshop
In week 9, the 5/6 students were visited by the Author Michael Wagner. Michael has written almost 100 books, and spoke to the students about how quickly to come up with compelling story ideas. Students learnt about the core elements of a story including protagonists, problems and antagonists, and identified where they appear in famous movies and books. They also learnt about the variety of interesting ways stories can be resolved, including in a discussion about the ironic endings. After this incursion, students were excited to try Michael Wagner’s ‘Instant Plot Machine’ to create their own compelling short stories.
Interschool Sport
In week 10, the 5/6 students had their second interschool sports day. Students competed against other schools in our district, playing T-ball, AFL 9’s, Netball and Soccer. In AFL, Whitehorse achieved 3rd place in division 1 and 1st place in division 2. The success of our teams can be credited to the student’s practise, teamwork and the support of those who cheered them on. Congratulations 5/6! You made your school proud.
Literacy Safari
This term, 5/6 students have been working on creating engaging information reports. They were proud to have them on display for the Whitehorse community during the literacy safari open afternoon on Tuesday the 24th of June. As the students were given the chance to choose their own topic, the 5/6 classrooms were filled with a fascinating variety of information reports. Visitors to the open afternoon learnt about sports stars, animals, actors, types of shoes, types of dance, cars and much more. Well done 5/6, and thank you for sharing your wonderful work!
