What's On In 1/2

Literacy Safari
Our recent Literacy Safari was a wonderful celebration of student learning. Families were invited to an open afternoon where students proudly showcased the work they had been developing over the term, including information reports, trioramas, and shape poems. Students were so proud and excited to share their efforts and to have their hard work on display. Visitors collected stamps on their ‘passports’ as they explored classrooms across different year levels. The enthusiasm was infectious and it was wonderful to see the school community come together to recognise and appreciate students’ work over the term.
Author Talks
To continue fostering a love of literacy, students had the opportunity to participate in live-streamed author talks hosted by the State Library of Victoria. Grade 1 students were thrilled to hear from Sally Rippin, author of popular series such as Billie B Brown and Hey Jack!, as she shared how she creates her stories and characters. The session even included a fun drawing activity where students created their own monsters alongside Sally! Meanwhile, Grade 2s tuned in to listen to Anh Do, author of beloved series including WeirDo and Ninja Kid. These inspiring talks offered students a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the minds of successful authors.
Excursion to Healesville Sanctuary
Last week, our cohort braved the chilly weather for an unforgettable excursion to Healesville Sanctuary. The day was packed with excitement as students explored the sanctuary and participated in an engaging education session focused on Australian wildlife. They learned fascinating facts about emus, kangaroos, and koalas—and even had the chance to hold a real emu egg, which is bright blue! This excursion beautifully complemented our information report unit, allowing students to see the animals they had been researching up close. It also helped foster a deeper appreciation for our incredible native wildlife.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to the wonderful volunteers who joined us on the day. Their support helped make the excursion smooth, fun, and memorable for all!
