Message from the Principal

Dear families
As we reach Week 8 in Term 2, we have much to celebrate and reflect upon, as well as a great week of activities as we celebrate Neurodiversity Pride Week.
This important week aims to raise awareness and promote understanding of neurodiversity, highlighting the unique strengths and perspectives of individuals with conditions such as autism, ADHD, sensory differences, hearing and vision loss, and others. By fostering an inclusive environment, we can better support our neurodiverse students and celebrate the diverse ways in which they learn and interact with the world.
Students (K-6) are encouraged to wear:
Wednesday (sensory differences) – something shiny with sequins or glitter
Thursday (hearing and vision loss) – something loud/colourful
Friday – Jersey day (from your favourite sport’s team)
In support of Neurodiversity Week, our Student Representative Council (SRC) is fundraising to instal a Friendship Bench in our playground, next to our ‘Friendship Tree’. A Friendship Bench is a designated space where students can go when they are feeling lonely or in need of a friend. It serves as a visual cue for other students to approach those sitting on the bench, fostering connections and encouraging friendships. By promoting inclusivity and kindness, the Friendship Bench will provide a safe space for students to seek companionship and support.
Students are encouraged to donate gold coins and place them in a box at the Student Services window.

Community Hub – Thursday 19 June
This Community Hub will focus on the new semester student report format. This morning tea and presentation aims to help parents interpret and understand the reports, as well as provide strategies to support your child's learning journey. We encourage all parents to participate in this valuable session, as it will equip you with the knowledge and tools to better support your child’s academic progress.
Meadowbank Spelling Bee
Can you easily spell ‘exhaustive’, ‘phenomenon’, ‘malachite’, ‘foliage’ or ‘receipt’? These are some of the words our finalists had to spell last week at our school’s Spelling Bee finals. This year's competition was particularly thrilling, culminating in an unprecedented three-way tie between Rohan, Malek and Carter in the junior competition. To determine the junior finalist, we held an additional final in the afternoon, featuring unseen and even trickier words. A big congratulations to all our finalists for their impressive performances, and special commendations to Carter (Junior finalist) and Katavu (Senior finalist), who will be representing Meadowbank in the regional finals.
Principal's Morning Tea
Last week, we held our Principal's Morning Tea, an event dedicated to recognising our students who earned the esteemed Principal's Award. It was a lovely occasion filled with pride as we shared morning tea with these outstanding students and their families. Congratulations to all award recipients for your hard work and dedication.
Thank you to all the students, parents, and staff for your continued support and enthusiasm. We look forward to more exciting events as we progress through to the end of the term.
