Year 5 Excursion to Nazareth

As soon as we got off the bus, the cold, freezing air attacked us. A staff at Nazareth came to greet us and we headed to the auditorium. When we walked into the auditorium, we were given a bag with ‘Nazareth’ on it. We got a bag of jelly beans, an activity book or two. And a book talking about Nazareth. After that, we headed to a nice undercover place where we had our snack. There were four groups. A, B, C and D. I was in group D. And at snack we were also given a sheet of paper with what we were doing. First we had Food tech. I originally thought we were going to make donuts. But it was actually cookies! They showed us a demonstrationThey got a plate and got five toppings. They said ‘You can make an animal or face’. They had melted chocolate and poured it into a metal or plastic circle. And they gently lifted the circle up and shook the baking paper to make it bigger. I was paired up with my two best friends. Isabelle and Olivia. We had so much fun! It was pretty amusing as well making the cookies. My lolly toppings that I chose were m&ms, white chocolate, small and big marshmallows and sour gummy snakes. When we finished we were given a plastic bag and we had to go get some string. We put the cookie in the plastic bag and tied it up with the string. Tying it into a bow. We then put our cookies into our bags and head off for science.
In science, we started by introducing ourselves and starting an experiment called; Elephant toothpaste. The teacher poured some water into the large tube and added red, green, yellow and blue food colouring into the water. She then added this strange liquid and it started fuzzing up. The water started rising and it looked so much like actual toothpaste! As the experiment's name says. We then started a new experiment. We used chromatography paper or filtered paper. We got four coloured markers and drew dots on the lines. We got a small beaker and put a little bit of water in. We folded our paper and made the tip touch the water. And the water made the colours spread out and when the colours reached the edge we were allowed to take it out. It was so beautiful, it was supposed to be a flower but to me it looked like a folded piece of paper.
We then did one more activity, it was an invention game. Called brain box and everyone was doing this helicopter one and it actually flew up but fell quickly. My group was making a sound alarm, but sadly the speaker wasn’t working. When we were having lunch we met the school pet, he was a black labradoodle, with curly fur. His name was Henry, he was still a puppy but extremely well behaved!
We had all finished lunch after a while and talked about our day. And there were questions, if you answered them, you got a prize. I got a pom pom. And that's when we headed home after saying farewell. Nazareth college was really big and fun, it was a unique experience!

The Year 5’s of Good Shepherd were assigned to an excursion to Nazareth College that would occur on the 28th of July. The students were intrigued about the fact that Nazareth was a multi-gender school. The students had an exceptional time doing things they’ve never imagined they’d do like food tech or woodworks. It was truly a wonderful excursion. It was an experience of a lifetime and it will encourage kids to go to Nazareth because it is just as amazing as other schools.
