Confirmation Workshop and Family Night

Confirmation Student Workshop

On Tuesday, 22nd of July, we Year 6’s gathered to begin our Confirmation Workshop Day. In the Performing Arts Centre, all three classes, 6NB, 6MP and 6EL entered the building in the morning. We were given a brief overview of some of the activities. We were to have three activities in the day, spaced throughout each class. After the introduction of the day was completed, we started year level Christian Meditation with Miss Lamanna. Practising our mantra and deep breathing, we did this for about five minutes. We then proceeded to enter our classrooms and began our first activity of the day.

In one of our sessions, with Ms. Lema, we learned about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Some of the gifts of the holy spirit include understanding, knowledge and fortitude.

Another session we went to was in Ms. Beech’s classroom, where we did, again, a guided Catholic meditation. This time, Ms. Beech did a meaningful reflection, while the class relaxed, closed their eyes, and envisioned the scene told to them. We imagined our Confirmation, getting closer to God and our upcoming sacrament. We went through two different scenarios; one where we confided with Jesus and imagined the church, speaking out our feelings toward Him and talking about our special day. We expanded on God being with us at all times, promising to join us in everything we do. Our other reflection was visualising the bishop, sealing us with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and experiencing the moment of receiving this blessed sacrament. It was a calm session, and we managed a better understanding of our Catholic Confirmation.

Our other activity was with Ms. McPhee, where we explored one scripture related to our Confirmation; the Parable of the Sower. In summary, the parable was about a sower, wanting to sow his seed. As he did so, some seed fell on the edge of the path and got trampled on; and the later birds pecked it up. A portion of seed fell on rock, but when it came up, it lost moisture and shriveled. Some seed fell into thorns, getting choked by its prickliness, and some seed fell into rich soil, growing up to be fruitful and healthy. The seed represented the word of God, with the areas the type of people who heard. The lesson included a task where we wrote down the representations of the lands, and did a small reflection on what we understood of the parable now.

At the end of the day, after these activities, the year level went into the church and did Reconciliation and a short Confirmation Liturgy, with a Gospel Reading, reflections and some prayers with Father Andrew. We then headed back to the Performing Arts for a team building activity with Miss Lamanna, called Stepping Stones. This incorporated small rows of three cones and seven rows, and each row had one correct stone we had to step on. If we stepped on an incorrect cone, back to the team’s line we headed. We had to memorise the cone pattern, and pass this onto our teammates, so they could pass too. The team had to get all their members across to the other side, and whichever team did so first was crowned the winner. The activity was enjoyed by all of the Year 6’s, with a sense of achievement, teamwork and victory by all. Overall, the workshop day was great, and helped us get closer to Jesus and God.

Confirmation Family Night

On Wednesday 30th August, our school community gathered for a beautiful and reflective Confirmation Family Night, an important step in preparing our Year 6 students to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.

This night offered both students and their families the chance to deepen their understanding of Confirmation and its significance. Through interactive and meaningful activities, the students explored key concepts of the sacrament, such as the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives and the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. A highlight of the night was the Confirmation Quiz, which sparked discussion and allowed families to learn together in a fun and engaging way.

As we reminded our students, Confirmation is not the end of their faith journey, it’s the beginning of a deeper, more personal commitment to living as followers of Christ. The night encouraged students to think about how they will continue to stay active in their faith beyond Confirmation, whether through prayer, community involvement, or service.

We thank all families who joined us for this special evening. Your presence and participation made it a meaningful and faith-filled experience for our students as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
