Thrive & Flourish

Wellbeing Newsletter:

Welcome to the first newsletter for Term 3. It is nice to see that the days are just starting to have more daylight – only one more month of Winter to go!

For those currently unwell, we hope for a speedy recovery for you. For those who’ve welcomed a new addition to the family, we extend our warmest congratulations on this happy occasion.

For those families who’ve experienced a recent bereavement, please know you are in the prayers and thoughts of all in our community.

Lots of kids who embark on Secret Agent Society want to feel happier, calmer, and braver when they’re at school.

· They might have missed a shot on the basketball court and not known how to “get their head back” in the game.

· They might question their place in the playground and withdraw, pretending they don’t want to play.

· They might have doubted themselves after making a mistake in the classroom and then felt too nervous to be able to focus when it was exam time.

Once they get started on the Secret Agent Society Small Group Program, they practice spotting unhelpful thoughts that are making them feel bad and holding them back from doing things they love. Then they discover a variety of techniques for letting them float away. This helps them create space for thoughts that make them feel good. When they grow up, these tools can help them feel more confident in moments that challenge them, like completing their driver’s license test, taking on a new role at work, or needing to advocate for themselves or someone they care about.

Keeping track of their thoughts helps them figure out how to take action in uncertain situations - and it’s a tool they could use time and again.

If your child is having unhelpful thoughts, then you might want to check out the skill snapshot below.

Student Attendance:

At Sacred Heart, most students come to school regularly and as a result are learning new skills socially, academically and emotionally. This is an expectation and a right that we would like to see enacted for every student.

We know that coming to school on time every day is a necessary condition for learning to occur. Students who attend school every day benefit from all of the support and teacher assistance that is available, and are much more likely to go ahead in their learning.

Being ready to begin the day's learning with the rest of the class is also very important and we ask for your support in ensuring that students are in their classes by the beginning of day bell. Being prepared for the day, and starting with peers, encourages a great day of learning and helps with organisational details of the day.

Parents/guardians are responsible for making sure that all children attend school every day unless they are too unwell, in which case the school must be advised.

We welcome any emails or calls if families wish to seek support and can be contacted via email at any time or a phone call to school.
