Principal's Message

Hi everyone,

It has been an eventful start to term 3 so far! We enjoyed welcoming our Grandparents and Special Friends on Friday of week 1. We commenced with a liturgy in the Church followed by some classroom visits and finally a cuppa and chat in our Mercy Centre. It was wonderful to have so many Grandparents and Special Friends come and be a part of their special young person’s school experience. I stated to our visitors at the liturgy – “You are very much a part of the experience of our students. You form many of their special memories that they proudly recite to us after weekends and term breaks. Never underestimate the value of your love and support on your special children.” Again, I’d like to sincerely thank all who were able to join us, you certainly made the day special for many of our students.

Last week many of our parents took the opportunity to attend our Term 3 parent teacher conversations. These conversations a great opportunity for our families to work in close partnership with us to support their child’s learning. For parents who could not attend, please take the opportunity to make an alternate time to speak with your child's teacher. It really is important to have open lines of communication in the learning process.

Over the past two weeks myself and members of our leadership team have been interviewing prospective Foundation students for Sacred Heart School in 2026. Despite lower numbers of students in kindergarten programs in Tatura this year, we have enrolment applications for more students than our intake this year. The numbers are pleasing and demonstrate a high level of trust in our programs, especially Magnify Sandhurst and our school. Enrolments will be confirmed in the coming weeks with our transition program for these students commencing early in Term 4.

Next week will be eventful week with all staff participating in the Sandhurst schools staff Spirituality Day on Wednesday. We are looking forward to some presentations which will focus on the influence of founders of religious orders and how their example translates to Catholicism today. A reminder that this is a pupil free day. The following day will be an earlier start for our grade 3s and 4s as they head to the Melbourne Museum and Imax for an excursion.

The planning committee for this year’s Colour Run will also meet next Monday. We will be calling on families for assistance with rosters for our BBQ and other food stalls on the evening. We are hopeful that many families will be able to attend the evening and look forward to a fun and successful event. Planning for opening of the time capsule (after 25 years) which coincides with 125 years of Catholic Education in Tatura have

also commenced. We will share details of this event with you in the coming weeks. The date is the same day as our Colour Run Friday October 17. This event will occur earlier in the day.

We are looking forward to the parent sessions from Dr Jared Cooney Horvath who presented to staff at the commencement of Term 2. These sessions will be very insightful for parents, and we are looking forward to sharing them with you. The first of these sessions, Stress Tech and Sleep will be offered at the school on Tuesday 19th August at 9am and again at 6pm in the school library. This is the same session offered twice (choose one). We will also have Mitchell Bull -Police youth liaison officer and members of our leadership team available for conversations at these sessions. Please join us for a cuppa and chat following the session. The video presentation will go for 1 hour and the cuppa and chat will be for 30 minutes afterwards. Please see details of all parent sessions in this newsletter school news section.

With so much that is positive happening in our community at present, it is difficult to fathom the pain and suffering in Gaza at present. I invite you to reflect on the following prayer as we remember so many who are in desperate need of our prayers and support at the moment:

A Prayer for Unity

Dear God, in these challenging times, I come to You with a heavy heart, yearning for unity among Your children in Israel and Palestine. I pray that You soften hearts and open minds to embrace understanding and compassion for one another. May Your spirit guide leaders to foster dialogue and cooperation, leading to peace. Help us all remember that we are brothers and sisters in You, deserving of love and respect.

Romans 12:10 “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”

May we embrace this calling, allowing Your love to shine through our actions and words. Teach us to be instruments of peace and reconciliation, fostering relationships built on trust and empathy.

Thank You for hearing our prayers and for being our source of hope.

Amen.

Blessings,

Carolyn Goode Principal
