See you in Term 3!
Term 3 commences on Monday the 21st of July. We look forward to welcoming staff, students and families back in Term 3 for another busy term.
Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club is returning in Term 3 (daily from 7.50am in the dining room). The Breakfast Club Team wish our students a safe and happy school holiday break.
Canteen and Cafe Hours - End of Term
Please be advised that the canteen will be closed on Friday 4 July (last day of term) and will reopen in Term 3.
The Cafe will be open until 1pm this Friday (for staff and senior students only).
Science Update
Year 7 Science
Year 7 students have been busy making Chromatography pictures in class. Chromatography is a laboratory technique used to separate components of a mixture. The below photo is the work of Billy Schessl, Year 7.
Students have been learning about mixtures and then how to separate mixtures. This will culminate in students completing a practical assessment where they get to apply their new learning to separating a mixture using multiple steps!
Year 9 Forensic Science
Our Year 9 Science students have had a fun term learning all about forensic science and recently gathered evidence at a crime scene!

Year 10 Science
Year 10 Science has seen the new semester start with students learning about Chemistry - this is a very practical unit, where students learn about all different types of chemical reactions.
Year 11 Chemistry

Students have been meeting each week and participating in a range of experiments!

Science Week - Term 3, Week 4
The Science Team is putting together a fun program with lunchtime activities, Homegroup activities and in class learning. Stay tuned for more information on the program which will be available in early Term 3!

Student Athletes
Izzy Grylls
Congratulations to Year 12 student Izzy Grylls on an overall finish of 7th in the world at the Youth and Junior World Weightlifting Championships in Peru earlier this month. Izzy also hit the mark of 176 in the Clean and Jerk, bringing home an Australian record in her age group! Well done, Izzy!
Three State Champions
Congratulations to three of our Sports Academy students who have made it to the STATE level in their chosen sports. Brodie Atkins and Tom Matthews have been selected to play in the 2025 Marsh AFL National Championships U18 Boys Team (football) and Noah Smith has been selected to play in the SSV U16 Boys State Team (basketball). Congratulations and well done boys!
Alix Tauru Debut
Former Lowanna College and Sports Academy student, Alix Tauru, made his debut at St Kilda Football Club recently. Congratulations Alix!

Mountain Biking Fun
Recently, students Sam Jones, Will Ainsworth and Josh Ainsworth raced at Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula. On Friday, the boys competed in the Rocky Trail Melbourne Schools Competition, with Lowanna College placing 12th overall. As bottom agers in the Year 9/10 Boys category, Sam finished 9th, Will finished 17th and Josh finished 64th. The following day, Sam also competed in the Fox Superflow Enduro series, finishing 10th in his category as a bottom ager. Well done boys!
Soccer Success
We had a handful of Lowanna College students who represented the Latrobe Valley Soccer League in the Victorian Country Championships recently. Congratulations to all of the boys and girls who played. Soccer and Netball Update
This term our students have competed in a range of sporting events, including netball and soccer, representing the college with pride and great sportsmanship. Congratulations to the West Gippsland Division winners - Year 7 Boys Soccer, Intermediate Boys Soccer, Intermediate Girls Soccer, Year 8 Boys Netball and Intermediate Girls B Team Netball.
Career Headstart
Congratulations to James Burke, Year 11, who has signed into an SBAT (School Based Apprenticeship/Traineeship) supported by Head Start. James will undertake a Certificate III in Barbering as part of the apprenticeship whilst working with Barber Kings on Queen and remaining at school part time. We wish James all the best as he gets his career "Head Start" with Barber Kings on Queen.
Year 9 Sports Academy Theory
Year 9 Sports Academy students have been learning about the cardiovascular system. Students had fun completing sketches recently to reinforce the anatomy of the heart.
Art and Music Update
Music Soiree and Art Exhibition
We held an Art Exhibition and Music Soiree at the college recently. Well done to the students who performed on the night or who had their artwork on display. A big thank you to everyone who attended and supported our students.
Year 7 Art
Year 7 students have been very busy in the Art Room this term. The two paintings below are examples of the painting CAT, which is an abstract piece in acrylic paint. The other images are the drawing unit CATs (still-life drawings).
Year 8 Art
Year 8 Art students finished the term with their landscape paintings. They learned about colour theory, space and painting and brush techniques.
Year 9 Painting and Drawing
Year 9 Painting and Drawing students finished the semester with their lolly still-life paintings on canvas.
Year 10 Painting and Drawing
Year 10 Painting and Drawing students finished the semester with their symbolic still-life paintings.
Year 9 and 10 Ceramics
Year 9 and 10 Ceramics students completed architectural sculptures and portraits to finish the semester.
LIA (Lowanna Institute of the Arts)
We are very excited by the interest and number of applications for LIA for 2026. Applications are now closed. Students will be receiving their audition letters at the start of Term 3.
Footy Colours Day
The college raised almost $800 for MND Australia on Footy Colours Day. Thank you to everyone who donated to this very important charity and thank you to the brave staff and students who participated in the Ice Bucket Challenge.
Green Tradies Fun
Our Green Tradies students have been busy in the garden growing their own vegetables (and they have enjoyed the satisfaction of eating them too!).
Italian Pizza Making Fun
Year 8 Italian students had the opportunity to learn how to make, cook and eat authentic Italian style pizza on an excursion recently. Thanks to Francesco from Trulli Pizzeria for the fabulous experience!

The Cafe's 1st Birthday
Our Cafe turned one recently, and we celebrated by selling cupcakes to students and staff. We are so lucky to have such a beautiful space for our staff and senior students to enjoy and are proud of the work that our canteen and cafe staff, alongside Wellbeing as part of the Achievement Program, have done to ensure that healthier food options are available.
Bus and Train Update
Please be advised that coaches replace trains on the Traralgon and Bairnsdale Lines from the 19th of June until the 13th of August due to upgrades. Affected families have been communicated with via email. If you have any questions, please contact our Bus Coordinator on 03 5127 9200.

V/Line - Regional public transport for Victoria - Service changes
VCE VM Adventures
Year 12 VCE VM PDS (Personal Development Skills) students ventured to Melbourne earlier this term to compete in the Amazing Race as part of their Effective Teamwork outcome. Students were split into teams of 4-5 and had to work together to get from one checkpoint to the next with challenges and roadblocks along the way. Some of the activities included an eating relay race, recreating Hosier Lane artwork, a scavenger hunt, a cheer routine, a sling shot challenge and a photo challenge. The winning team were awarded trophies and the losing team a wooden spoon. Students had a fun day exploring the city.

Recently, our Community Drumming Group performed at Albert Street Primary School.
