Principal's Update

Dear Lowanna College Families,

As we come to the end of Term 2, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the achievements of our students and the broader Lowanna College community.

Term 2 has been a particularly long one, marked by chilly mornings and shorter days, yet our students have shown incredible resilience and commitment. I commend all students for their dedication to their learning and for continuing to attend school consistently, even on the coldest of days. Regular attendance is vital for student success, and we remind families that if your child is struggling to attend school, we are here to help. Please don’t hesitate to reach out so we can work together to provide support.

This term, our Year 10, 11 and 12 students completed their Semester 1 exams. We are incredibly proud of the way they approached these assessments with maturity and determination. These exams are an important milestone in their educational journey and the effort our students have put into their preparation and performance has been impressive.

Another highlight of the term was the Year 11 and 12 Formal, a truly special evening that celebrated our senior students in style. It was wonderful to see our students enjoying themselves, dressed to impress and making memories with their peers. Congratulations to everyone involved in organising this fantastic event—it was a night to remember!

As we look to the future, we farewell Mr Daniel King, who has taken up an exciting new opportunity as the Substantive Assistant Principal for School Improvement at Traralgon College. We thank Daniel for his dedication and outstanding contribution to Lowanna College, and we wish him every success in his new role.

We are pleased to welcome Ms Bernadette Cropper to the college as our new Assistant Principal, leading Teaching and Learning and overseeing the Senior School. Bernadette brings a wealth of experience in curriculum leadership and pedagogy, and we are excited about the expertise and perspective she brings to the team. Please join me in making her feel welcome in our community.

This term, the Department of Education has introduced a new Preventing and Responding to Racism in Schools policy. This is an important step in ensuring that all schools are safe, inclusive and respectful environments for every student. Please refer to the letter below for more information about this policy and what it means for our school.

As we head into the mid-year break, I would like to thank all students, staff and families for your ongoing support and contribution to the life of the college. I hope everyone enjoys a restful and safe holiday period.

We look forward to welcoming students back at the start of Term 3 on Monday the 21st of July.

Julia Niamh
