Year 8 Visual Communication Design

A key skill that modern designers need to possess is an ability to translate, and enhance, freehand drawings in a digital environment. As part of their studies this term, Year 8 Visual Communication Design students have learnt how to use the program, Adobe Illustrator, to develop this skill. For their task, each student was required to freehand draw at least four characters from their own imagination or use an existing character as inspiration and make a change to the character. They were then to select one of their drawings and recreate and enhance it using the tools and techniques taught in class for Adobe Illustrator. Please take a look at the excellent work below and see how the design idea has evolved from a pencil drawing to a digital recreation.

Schools Cup Volleyball

Nazareth fielded four teams in the recent School Volleyball Cup #1, run by Volleyball Victoria and held at the State Volleyball Centre in Dandenong.

I am proud of our students who all played to the best of their abilities and were a credit to our school.  The results were:

  • Year 12 Girls won Bronze, defeating Eltham 2-0!
  • Year 12 Boys finished 5th, bringing the Lachlan McDonnell cup home! They defeated Mazenod 3-0 in their final game.
  • Year 8 Boys finish 4th, losing a tough bronze medal match against Upwey.
  • Year 8 Girls lost a tough 2 setter to finish 4th, losing to Northcote.

Thanks to Mr Sam Cosentino, Mr Mark O'Sullivan and Mrs Janine Stockedale for coming down and supporting the teams.

Thanks to Ms Antigone Kappas, Mr Lachlan McDonnell, and Mrs Laura Langmead for making it happen with supervision and snacks!

Finally, thanks to Jimmy C, Edwin and Steffen, our coaches, who made it all happen on the court.

Vinnies Winter Appeal and Social Justice Mass

A very big THANK YOU to every single person who supported this year's Winter Appeal. You may have donated one item, or you may have donated several items; the point being that every single donation counts. So, thank you to all of the families who embraced this opportunity to help people who are struggling this winter.

A special mention to our Pastoral teachers and Heads of House for your daily reminders , to the Vinnies who went around and collected items, advertising the appeal and setting up the display.

An extra mention to Ayo in Year 7 (Mannix 3) for his incredibly generous donation of 51 items!

Once again, I would like to mention Mrs Morina (parent), who donated four beautiful hand-crocheted blankets that were auctioned in silent auction hampers to the staff.  She also donated a variety of beaded bracelets that were sold for $10. These donations raised more than $850, enabling the purchase of non-perishable food items and toiletries. (see photo).  Ms Caitlin Mackay once again set up the Vinnie's Door Dash supermarket, enabling some students to make a donation.

The St Anthony’s SVDP Conference team were once again amazed by the Nazareth donations, and very thankful. They will collect these items this week and create food hampers that will be distributed to the needy in the local community.

Focussing on the words from Father Andrew's homily, we are all capable of being good shepherds and appeals like this demonstrate our ability to look after our flock.
