Deputy Principal Staff and Students Report

Child Safety

Last week Parents/Guardians/Carers and students met with the Child Safety team to share feedback on mobile phones, young people and the internet. It was a great to see students sharing their own experiences with Parents/Guardians/Carers listening, learning, asking questions and also sharing what happens in their family regarding internet use. One key aspect that came out of the meeting was the experience of our older students and the wisdom they have from their years of experience with the internet. From this meeting we are planning to be more aware of and creating opportunities for our older students to share with the younger students some of the things Parents/Guardians/Carers and teachers may say often, but may have more impact coming from an older peer than it does with a Parent/Guardian/Carer or teacher.

We are very grateful for all of the students and Parents/Guardians/Carers that attended. We will have another open meeting in Term 3 and look forward to working together to improve child safety for all our students and their families.

Connection

It was an absolute joy to see the School Production of High School Musical. The gifts and talents of the students were on display due to very hard work, generosity, and sacrifice. In addition to the great fruit of developing students’ talents, confidence and self-belief, the musical offers students an opportunity to share and connect with other students with a common goal and common interest.

There have been many students over the years and some today that would say the Musical, the Volleyball teams, Lego Club, the Aerobics School of Excellence, the Soccer teams, the Minnie Vinnies group etc played a big part in getting them to school each day. The connection with other people is so important. We are a school of opportunity, and we strongly encourage all students and invite Parents/Guardians/Carers to join with us in encouraging students to get involved, shine your light, the gifts you have, be generous, be involved. The involvement in different aspects of the College’s life draws students more deeply into our community and helps them to grow and connect.
