From the Year 3 Classroom

We have made it to the end of Term 2.

A big thanks to all our students for their efforts throughout the term, you all have worked hard and deserve a well- earned holiday.  We hope you have a fun and restful break and look forward to seeing you in Term Three.

READING

We are wrapping up our unit of work on poetry this week and have had a lot of fun reciting and performing different poems.  This Wednesday as a culmination of our work we are having a Year Three Poetry Slam where students will individually, in a pair or in groups recite a poem.

We also finished our serial reading book, ‘Runt,’ by Craig Silvey, and as an end of term reward we will be watching the movie on Wednesday.

WRITING

We have enjoyed our final two weeks of Term 2 with poetry writing. We have had fun creating different types of poems, including alliteration, limericks and free verse. We looked at the various elements poets use, including repetition, power of three, similes and metaphors.  Today we get a chance to express our favourite poems in our Grade 3 poetry slam!

Last week we were fortunate to have a Writer’s workshop conducted by the National Library of Victoria with famous author’s Ahn Do and Sally Rippen. We got to hear their experiences as authors and some insight into how they create characters and storylines in their books.

MATHS

In Maths over the last two weeks our focus has been on addition and subtraction with and without regrouping.  Students have been exploring a variety of strategies to complete these processes.

We continue to encourage students to practise the automatic recall of their times tables.  Once they can automatically recall their tables which have been sent home, please return them to school so the teachers can test them and send them home with the next set.

INQUIRY

This week we have created mini movies in Clips showcasing our knowledge on everything we have learnt about Heat energy. We will then view our videos,

RE

This week we conclude our Source of Life Unit, ‘Sacraments of Initiation.’ Students have been looking at the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation & Eucharist to gain a deeper understanding of their significance for us as Catholics.

Enjoy the holidays
