Principals Report

And just like that we are into July. At the end of this week, the final week of Term 2, we will be halfway through the 2025 school year. As I look back on the first half of the year, my highlights include (but are not limited to) the following: my first day meeting the staff, Swimming Carnival, Opening School Mass, Pancake Tuesday and Ash Wednesday Mass, Harmony Day, Staff vs Yr6’s Cricket Match, Good Friday Liturgy, Yr4 Camp to Harrietville, Mother’s Day Celebration, Market Day at the College, School Cross Country and Fun Run, Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist, Yr6’s leading Tabloid Sports, Lion’s Club Public Speaking, Googabinj incursion, Feast of the Sacred Heart Mass and our Yr5 Camp to Sovereign Hill. We sure have packed a number of wonderful experiences into the semester!

Sunday’s Gospel (Mt 8:18-22) highlighted the challenges that come with being a disciple (follower) of Jesus. In this reading, one of Jesus’ followers' states, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go”. This speaks to the total commitment God asks of us. It reminds us that just like in many aspects of our life; we will get out what we are willing to put in. Are we able to fully put the needs of others before our own? Do we truly love each other with the unconditional love that God has for us. It is a challenging passage the calls us to be better.

I would like to thank Mrs McInness and all those involved in our Feast of the Sacred Heart Mass for their efforts last week. It was a great way to celebrate the history of our school, our connection with the College and our Mercy values that underpin all that we do at Sacred Heart.

I was fortunate enough to Join Miss Connell, Mr Carroll, Mrs Lawless, Danni, Jensen, Darby, Mrs Bridgeman and the Yr5’s on Camp at Sovereign Hill. We learnt a lot about the Gold Rush, what life in Victoria (particularly the Gold Fields) was like in the 1850s, and the impact this event had on shaping our state and country. The students were extremely well behaved, took the opportunity to learn more about this time period and enjoyed the odd Raspberry Drop hard lolly!

This week will be Ms. Ross’ last week with us before she goes onto maternity leave. Lauren is an integral part of our Yr6 teaching staff and will be missed. We wish Lauren all the very best with the upcoming new arrival.

A reminder that we will have our annual Grandparent’s Day celebration on Friday 25th July (first Friday back next term). We will have a liturgy in the MPB from 9:45am, classroom visits from 10:15-11:10am and then a morning tea provided from 11:10-11.40am.

In Week 2 of next term, we will hold our first School Advisory Council meeting for the year. I would like to deeply thank the new members of this council including parents: Ingrid Inchbold, Marcus Cummins and Alexandra Ratcliffe.

School finishes at 2:15pm this Friday, there will be no assembly at school on this day. I wish families a happy and safe mid-year break, and I look forward to a big second half to the school year.

Take care and God bless,

Jarrod Mullavey
