Excursion to the State Parliament and Centre for Democracy
Recently, our year 8 IGNITEstudents went on an excursion to the State Parliament and Centre for Democracy, where they learned about the key features of our system of government, as well as the pioneering role of South Australia in the development of the rights we enjoy today.
They also toured the Parliamentary Library, Legislative Council, and House of Assembly with Erin Thompson MP, and engaged in passionate debate about the merits of the proposed No Homework Bill 2025, which was narrowly passed despite fierce opposition.
The students behaved well, particularly compared to Parliament's usual occupants and learned a lot about how laws are passed, the underlying principles of representative democracy, and the importance of protecting and exercising their rights.
