Anti-Bullying Rapid review campaign

The Australian Government recently announced an Anti-Bullying Rapid review. The review will look at current approaches to addressing bullying in schools, what is working and what needs strengthening, with the aim of providing options for the development of a consistent national standard for responding to bullying and its underlying causes in schools.

The review is now accepting submissions. The review co-chairs, Dr Charlotte Keating and Dr Jo Robinson AM, are seeking views from students, parents, teachers and those involved in school education across the country. Submissions can be made anonymously if preferred.

To provide feedback through the submission process, please visit www.education.gov.au/antibullying-rapid-review

This page contains instructions on how to participate, along with the review’s terms of reference.

Thank you for supporting our bake sale

We thank everyone who joined us at lunch to support the bake sale organised by the school youth club. Your generosity made the event a resounding success.

Over the weekend, our dedicated club members put their baking skills to the test, creating a delightful array of baked goods. Each item was sold for just $1 and thanks to your support, we raised an impressive total of $233.

The funds will be donated to Compassion’s Water and Sanitation Appeal, contributing to vital projects in the developing world.

Contributions will help provide essential solutions such as:

  • Water filters: Ensuring access to clean and safe drinking water.
  • Wells and water tanks: Providing sustainable water sources for communities.
  • Toilets and showers: Improving sanitation and hygiene facilities.
  • Hand washing stations: Promoting health and hygiene practices.

Vaping and mental health: a complex connection

Vaping is increasingly in the spotlight due to its regulation, public health impact and effects on young people. With recent reforms in Australia limiting vape availability to pharmacies, many are considering quitting. However, the presence of nicotine in vapes, with 73% of Australian vapers using nicotine products, complicates the process.

Mental health is closely linked to vaping. Individuals with mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression, are more likely to vape and face challenges when quitting. Vaping can exacerbate depression symptoms and physical health issues, creating a cycle that is difficult to break.

Some individuals use vaping as a form of self-medication for stress and mood management, but research indicates it may actually increase these symptoms. The relationship between vaping and mental health is complex, and more long-term studies are needed to understand it fully.

Quitting vaping, especially for those with mental health conditions, requires tailored support. Cognitive behavioural therapy and motivational interviewing are promising approaches.

Resources like the My QuitBuddy app, Quitline and various mental health support services can provide assistance.
