Kingston Libraries BIG Summer Read

Hello there from Kingston Libraries,

Our Big Summer Read kicks off Friday 1 December and runs through until Wednesday 31 January 2024. It is our way of encouraging and supporting children and young adults to keep up their reading throughout the summer season, not just to support their literacy skills but to ensure they have many adventures even if it is with in their own spaces. This year’s challenge is open to ages 0-18 years and there are some fabulous prizes to be won. Register on the Beanstack app, log 10 titles and go in the Kingston Libraries draw as well as the Public Libraries of Victoria draw. The more 10 tittles read and logged, the more entries into the major prize draw they have. There will also be weekly prize draws!

The Kingston Libraries major prize draw include:

1st prize - (ages 14-18) - Beats Solo3 Wireless On-Ear Headphones plus $50 bookstore voucher
1st prize - (ages 10-13) - Nintendo Switch Lite plus $50 bookstore voucher.

Summer Vibes School Holiday Activities in January 2024

Summer Vibes School Holiday Activities has activities perfect for young people aged 12-25 in the City of Greater Dandenong.

The action packed holiday activities will be delivered between 10th of January and 25th of January. Activities include Bonbeach Day Trip, Bounce Trampoline Park, Archery, Volleyball Tournament, Crochet Workshop, Karate Workshop, Gumbuya World, and more!

Free Summer Holiday Camps for Kids

The Doxa Youth Foundation will be running holiday camps for children from 10 to 12 years old during the 2024 summer school holidays.

Doxa will be providing these camps FREE of charge for children from less affluent families. We are all about children having fun, learning, and creating special memories. We would appreciate your assistance in referring children who you think would benefit from a Doxa holiday camp.

Malmsbury Camp, January 8th – 12th 2024, (5 days and 4 overnight) Our Malmsbury Camp is located in an idyllic bush setting in Central Victoria where campers will have exciting outdoor adventures. Onsite there are all sorts of facilities including a giant swing, climbing wall, archery, trampolines, and local native wildlife. During this program participants will also visit the local swimming pool and canoe in local areas.

City Camp, January 15th – 19th 2024, (5 days and 4 overnight) Located in the heart of the CBD, our city camp will offer participants the opportunity to discover all the things that our vibrant city has to offer. From seeing Melbourne’s iconic attractions such as the Eureka Skydeck and Melbourne Zoo, to attending major Australian sporting events such as The Australian Open and Big Bash League, the experience they will have will be like no other.

City of Kingston Community Bike Education Program

Bike Education offered to all the community:

• Simple and effective training for both children and adults new to the world of cycling.

• Riding as a family and wanting to gain confidence to ride safety alongside adults on shared footpaths, trails and roads.

• Require update on the road rules and riding in traffic.

• Senior bike group riding focus traffic techniques and hazards.

• Bike maintenance and bike checks.

Session Includes:

• Interactive bike exercises.

• Promoting safe riding behaviour and habits.• Bike checks and suggestions.

• Review of the road rules.

• How to get ongoing support.•

The program can be tailored to any ability and is offered to all.

In 2020, the This is ‘IT’ initiative was born, in an attempt to equalise access to education across the South East region of Melbourne. Now in 2023, with the assistance of very generous donors, the initiative has expanded into the Bayside and Peninsula regions. The initiative aimed to offer scholarships to local students, in the form of laptops.

In this day and age, laptops are a required learning tool.

Carers Victoria welcomes the continuation of public transport concessions for Carer Card holders

Carers who hold a Carer Card can access discounted public transport throughout the year.

Bulls (Noble Park) Juniors Football Club

The Bulls (Noble Park) Juniors FC has been operating as a local football club nearly 60 years. They are looking for boys and girls aged 11, 12 and 13 years to join the club. They have no club fees and are asking that students consider joining the club to be part of a team. Refer to flier for information.

Mazenod Football Club

Mazenod FC is actively striving to create a Female Football program to run parallel to our long-running male football department.

At present, we have FIVE female teams with room to grow. As such, we have places available to fill our Under 13 and Under 15 Girls teams, who will play in the Football Victoria metropolitan competitions this season.

With the FIFA Womens Football World Cup due on our shores this year, we would like to see the number of female footballers grow, not only for us but for the nation in general.
