Mr Kristian Gropel

Report from Health & PE Coordinator

Kristian Gropel

Students across all year levels have been training hard for 8 weeks to prepare for the Victoria Volleyball Junior Open. The VVJO lasts for a span of 5 days starting on the 27th of November and finishing on the 1st of December. We had 2 teams enter this tournament, our Year 8/9 and Year 11 Boys. Our teams versed schools across Victoria and this is how we came out.

Our Year 8 Boys started the tournament playing 3 games on Monday versing The Grange Blue and Gold, as well as Nunawading. With the boys coming out on top for 2 games. Over the next few days, the boys will play games against The Grange (x2) , Monbulk, Nunawading with games starting in the morning and running to the early afternoon.

Our Year 11 Boys versed schools across Victoria such as Nossal, Monbulk, Nunawading and Upwey University. So far throughout the comp, the boys have had very close games against all schools. On Thursday they had won a total of 3 games and lost 3 games and are currently situated 2nd on the ladder.

After a long week the boys sadly finished in 3rd position overall, falling just short to the winners (Monbulk) in a very close 3 set match. The boys gave it their all and left everything out on the court.

Well done to the boys participating in the VVJO competition, and all their coaches for their well-deserved wins in the competition. We’ll be back next year to hopefully improve on our results in 2023.

In other news, Mr Gropel has been working hard on reinvigorating the swimming carnival for 2024. The School and Sport captain have been working great together to come up with new ideas and ways to get students involved in the day. Watch this space in 2024 for a new, exciting, and reinvigorated swimming carnival in 2024. Thank you to all school and sport captains for working diligently over the last few weeks and into the holidays to make this happen.
