Report from Assistant Principal Jason Tickner

As Term 4 draws to a close, I want to acknowledge the efforts of both our staff and students for working together through curriculum and assessments across all subjects throughout 2023. In recognition of this we have once again held our Semester 2 Awards Assembly and Yr12 Graduation on Thursday 23rd November. Our Semester 2 Awards assembly was open to all staff, students, and families. Congratulations to our 2024 School Captains, Jorden Khauv and Zoi Spiliopoulou who introduced each guest speaker and performing acts, with style and grace. Well done to Deziah Fogale (Yr9) and Phuong Linh Tran (Yr9) who both played the piano solos with great artistry, impressing the audience. 2024 Booklist & Resources

In preparation for next year it is crucial that all Westall students start the 2024 academic year with the resources needed in each of their subjects. This includes required texts and stationary items. If students don’t have access to these basic resources, they are less likely to learn. Having textbooks is a basic requirement for every student! All parents and/or caregivers should ensure that you support your son or daughter by purchasing the texts and resources that are listed on the 2024 Booklist. If you are experiencing financial difficulty, and cannot afford to make this purchase the Camps, Sports, and Excursions Fund (CSEF) can assist. Families holding a valid means-tested concession card or temporary foster parents are eligible to apply. Each family receives $225 per year paid for each eligible secondary school student. Payments are made directly to the school and are linked to the student. If you applied this year, you do not need to re-apply unless your circumstances have changed. Information on how to do this will be provided when enrolment packs are sent out next week. The 2024 Booklist (Junior, Middle & Senior) are attached below for your reference.

Next year, the families of students without textbooks and resources will be contacted to discuss the reasons why this may be occurring, to support student learning.

Students (10-12) who will be studying VCE subjects Unit 1-4 may be required to purchase EDROLO texts/portal resources in some subjects. These are clearly detailed on the Senior Booklist. EDROLO classes have already been set up and students can gain access to EDROLO resources and activating their accounts (Yr11s) or for existing students (Yr12s) the same login details will re-activate accounts for the 2024 academic year. All students accessing EDROLO texts and/or resources will have up until Friday 2nd February 2024 to pay for EDROLO access. After that time students will be locked out unless you have been identified as experiencing financial hardship. The cost of EDROLO for 2024 is:

1 Edrolo subject = $50

2 Edrolo subjects = $100

3+ Edrolo subjects = $150 capped

Information on how to access and pay for EDROLO can be found in the ‘EDROLO Parent Information Letter’ attachment below.

Semester 2 Reports

A reminder that Semester 2 Reports will become available on Compass on Monday 18/12 via Compass. A reminder that reports will display your child’s progress across all five learning behaviours, performance in assessments and for progress across Vic Curriculum Levels (7-10) and unit completion and outcome completion (VCE/VM) in each subject. If you need support in accessing students reports, please call the college for assistance where you will be directed to your son/daughters’ respective sub-school for direct assistance. To support you to be able to access student reports you may also want to use the ‘How to Access Reports’ attachment below.

On a personal note, I wanted to thank all staff, students and care givers within our Westall school community. It is my belief that this year we have continue to create a supportive and learner focused environment for all students to engage in a quality secondary education at their point of need and interest. As always there is room for improvement, and we will continue to look for more effective strategies and approaches to support our students education and personal development in 2024.
