Principal Report

What an amazing learning and community event our first night of our whole school Musical was last night. The students had a wonderful time and learnt so much about performing to a crowd, resilience, perseverance and collaboration.

It was wonderful to see so many members of the community come together to celebrate and enjoy the efforts of students at our school; from the main cast to our youngest students, all doing their very best.

I particularly acknowledge the support of our families and staff in preparing and organising all aspects of the Musical, the first ‘major’ performance for our school since 2019! With many new staff, new parents, new technology and a new venue, there was a lot of change, time, effort and learning needed by our adult community to ensure the event was a success.

Many thanks to:

Ann Dunford (Grandparent)- for her tireless efforts with costuming, sewing, fitting, communicating, attending rehearsals, getting other parents on board to assist- we could not have done this with her (and her team)!
Amanda Lewis (parent) and daughter-in-law of Ann, who has helped Ann throughout this whole process, along with Kelly Lewis, Kathryn Padfield and Jackie Bourke (parents).
Bronwyn Clarke (Parent)- for sewing all the foundation bear costumes, arranging the food and drink canteen sales, organising the raffle & hampers, gathering parent helpers and marketing.
Alicia Berriman (Parent) for the loan of some 'sparkly' skirts for costumes.
The School production team: Daniel Redfearn, Michael Mottershead, Catherine Vastbinder, Trish Johnston, Dana Kroenert, Kylie Szabo- for creating staff costumes, teaching dance moves, developing the program, arranging marketing and Socials comms, photography and supporting main cast rehearsals and stage management.
Jenny Lang (retired staff) for the development of the script and original Musical concept, and all of her work in Term 1 and 2 this year to ensure the performance was a success.

And, for all our parents, staff and students who have worked so hard to make the Musical a great success!

We are looking forward to another wonderful performance this evening, with a ‘Full House’!

Referendum BBQ @ ARPS

Thank you to all our wonderful helpers at our BBQ on Saturday 14th October. It was great to see so many families supporting the Parents’ Association with their fundraising efforts on the day.

WORLD TEACHERS DAY NEXT WEEK: FRIDAY 27TH OCTOBER

World Teachers’ Day is an opportunity for our community to celebrate the outstanding work of our teachers at Albany Rise. Each of our teaching staff commit 100% to ensure the best outcomes for all our students through their passion and dedication.

World Teachers’ Day is Celebrated in Australia on 27th October, and internationally in the first week of October each year in more than 100 countries world wide. We hope that our community takes this opportunity to recognise and celebrate the wonderful work of our teachers at Albany Rise.

We will be celebrating World Teachers’ Day by having some special recognition opportunities at Assembly on Friday 27th October.

You can get involved by sending a message of thanks to a teacher who is making, or has made, an impact on your life using #thanksvicteachers on social media. Don’t forget to tag the Department of Education and Training (the department) so we can see all your messages.

DAY FOR DANIEL NEXT FRIDAY 27TH OCTOBER - WEAR RED AND PLEASE DONATE A GOLD COIN

On Friday October 27th, students will be encouraged to WEAR RED❤ for Day for Daniel. This day is Australia’s largest child safety education and awareness day.

In 2023 the theme is CONSENT and Day for Daniel will focus on helping students understand and identify and when something doesn’t feel right or safe and when to talk to a trusted adult.

World Events

Many in our school community are affected by the devastating events in the Middle East.

All of us are upset and disturbed by the awful events depicted in media footage and images.

This time is particularly distressing for staff, students, families and carers who have family and friends in Israel and Gaza.

We are also aware that students of diverse backgrounds, including Jewish and Muslim students, may be significantly affected by public events, mainstream media coverage and social media at this time.

Please be assured that all staff are aware of the extreme emotional toll on many in our community at this time. But please also feel free to get in contact with any of the staff at our school if you would like to ensure we are aware of what your child is going through at this time.

Our support staff will continue doing all they can to support all our students, and support is also available for our staff.

I also want to assure you that the Department of Education is monitoring the situation from a school security perspective, and have advised there is no further action we need to take at this stage.

It is possible that extremely distressing scenes from the conflict may be posted online in coming days. Please ensure your children are aware of where they can find support in the event they come across such images. At our school, this includes Dana Kroenert (Student Wellbeing), Michael Mottershead (Assistant Principal) and myself.

Lunch orders

Our school uses Classroom Cuisine for students have lunch orders. Lunches are ordered online and delivered straight to the school. https://classroomcuisine.com.au/

Parents are reminded that the Staff Car parks at the front and rear of the school are not for parent parking. Parents with a valid disabled pass may use the designated space at the front of the school..
