3/4 B

Week 5 Term 4

Inquiry

This term in Inquiry we have been learning about how people, places and environments are connected. We have been learning about our world; asking questions such as, What is it like to live in different parts of our world that are affected by different climate zones? We've been investigating features such as the Equator, climate zones, our polar regions and tropics. The students will research different types of vegetation that grow in these climate zones and put this knowledge into action when the begin their project My Island Home.

Education in Faith

Over the next few weeks we will look into what makes a disciple. We will make connections with people in our Parish and school community and look into the qualities that make us all disciples of God. We will learn that:

  • Mary, mother of Jesus, is the perfect disciple
  • Discipleship is listening to the word of God in your life, and responding accordingly
  • There are many people in the present and past Church who are models of discipleship.

Literacy

Our focus this term has been on persuasive writing. The children are currently in the middle of a 'big write' where they have planned and drafted a persuasive text using a writing prompt of their choice. What would your prefer? Tacos or hamburgers? Be able to swim or be able to fly? Go to the zoo or the amusment park? Be a great scientist or great at art? We have been looking into the structure of persuasive pieces and the sort of vocabulary that makes our writing convincing to the reader.

Maths

This past fortnight we have been investigating different types of probability through a variety of chance games and activities. The students have really enjoyed using dice and cards in different games, making their own spinners and calculating the probability of different outcomes and providing reasoning for their reponses. Over the next two weeks we will be completing a unit on Location. This will tie in really nicely with our current Inquiry unit.

Kind regards,

Brendan.
