Mathematics

In mathematics we have been working on fact families with a focus on the addition and subtraction. The children have been exploring how addition and subtraction are related and if they know an addition fact it can assist them in solving a subtraction fact. For example if the children know 8+4=12

then they also know

4+8=12

12-4=8

12-8=4

This is an addition and subtraction fact family and this knowledge can will assist the children in quickly solving addition and subtraction equations. Check out the fact families the children have worked on this week.

Ed in Faith

In Ed in Faith we have been focusing on how Jesus taught us to be kind to others. We read the Bible story 'Jesus and the Children' and discussed who showed kindness towards the children and the action of kindness?

Then we watch the video 'Kindness Boomerang' that showed a range of kind acts that people can do for each other on a daily bases. We also noted that kindness is like a boomerang and if we do something kind for someone else the kindness will come back to us.

Next, we thought about some of the acts of kindness

we can realistically do for others as Grade 1 and 2 students.

We worked in small groups to plan, practise and then present role plays of these acts of kindness, while our audience members demonstrated whole body listening, and tried to guess what it was we were acting out.
