Starr’s Planetarium & STEM Activity Day

Yesterday was a fun filled day for a number of primary school students from Wangaratta Primary School, Carrangmungi Primary School, Chiltern Primary School, Springhurst Primary School and Yarrunga Primary School who attended Wangaratta High School and had the privilege of hosting Starr’s Planetarium in conjunction with a STEM Activity day. Students from the primary schools as well as Galen viewed an interactive presentation in the Planetarium. The primary schools were also treated to STEM Activities that aimed to build team work, innovation and inspiration.

This event would not have been possible without our partnership with DTAC Wangaratta - A big thank you to Charles Sturt University and NE Tracks LLEN for providing some wonderful volunteers to help WHS students run the STEM activities. Also thank you to Galen and Maree Timms for lending the VEX and Bloxels for students to explore.

Star dome was an engaging presentation on the moon and constellations in an inflatable tent-like dome with a projector displaying the night sky. It started off with a short film on the phases of the moon, day/nights, and lunar/solar eclipses followed by a discussion on constellations. After the presentation had concluded, a group of year 7- 9’s helped with various space-related activities for primary school kids waiting for their turn in the star dome. Overall, the star dome was a fun activity and I would recommend everyone to do it if we have it again in the future.
