SPOTLIGHT

Mia's TOM Experience - ST NICHOLAS PODCAST EPISODE 3

YEAR 1 GRADE SPOTLIGHT

Year 1 put their author's hats on, warmed up their writing hand and had their first big write of the term - writing an explanation on the lifecycle of a butterfly, and wow were the teachers impressed. Our mathematicians have been learning about mass - comparing objects to see which is lightest and heaviest, using a pan scale. They have really enjoyed the challenges set by the teachers to use their prediction skills about what objects are really heavier or lighter than others.

In Geography, we have been learning about Weather. This week we conducted our own rain cloud experiment using shaving cream and food dye. It gave us the opportunity to move the classroom outside and investigate how rain falls from the clouds in a colourful way. We are continuing to work hard on our end-of-year performance and cannot wait to show you all.

YEAR 3 GRADE SPOTLIGHT

This week the Year 3 children had a ‘Big Write’ to prove that teachers could be replaced by robots. The teachers dressed up as robots and each child was given a piece of foil to create a robot body part of their choice. They had to structure their writing using an introductory statement, three strong arguments and then a concluding statement. Students used high-modality language and rhetorical questions to convince the audience that their opinion was the correct one.

Tomorrow they will VCOP their writing and see how many ‘WOW' words they used, what powerful connectives and openers they included and see if they have upleveled their punctuation.

Obviously, most of them chose that teachers were irreplaceable!
