Chess Wrap Up

Chess State Finals - Bronze Medallists, Regional Category

Patrick McCarthy, Sami Abdalla, Tom Fenner and Rodney Perkowicz came home with bronze medals in the regional category of the Chess State Finals that were held in Brisbane recently!

This achievement is a reflection of the passion that the boys have for this game of strategy, and the time and dedication that Mr Ellison, Mr Harnischfeger and Mr Fenner dedicate to encouraging the boys to develop their skills.

This rounds off an incredibly successful year for the St Stephen's Chess teams and we look forward to what the future holds for these talented students.

We thank the organisers of the Queensland Inter-School Chess Championships for sharing their fantastic photos of our students taken during the competition!

FNQ Chess Finals

Earlier in the year, Isaac Fenner, Isaac Tatti, Jack Lennon and Ashley King won bronze in the Secondary A Division at the FNQ Chess Finals.

Jack also won individual gold in the Secondary A Division!

The tradition of chess success at St Stephen's is sure to continue with these talented students coming through.

Hanischfeger Cup

Rodney Perkowicz defended the Harnischfeger Cup in 2023, and was victorious in the best-of-five final. After becoming the youngest player to ever win the title in 2022, this year Rod became only the third player to defend the Harnischfeger Cup which has been running as an annual intraschool competition since 2014.
