Conference Inspires: No Limit to Future Potential

Mr Hadyn Flynn, Business Manager

During the September holiday break, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to attend some professional development at the National Conference of the Association of School Business Administrators (ASBA). The conference was held in Melbourne and a range of entertaining, informative and challenging guest speakers were on the program. My favourite two were Dr Jordan Nguyen and Dylan Alcott.

I was fascinated by Dr Nguyen’s story – particularly considering our current planning for our Innovation Centre. The work that he is doing with a range of new and old technologies to create a mind-controlled wheelchair is amazing. I would encourage you to take some time to check out his website www.drjordannguyen.com or his YouTube channel @DrJordan to see that there really are no limits to what our young people can discover when given the right environment to learn and strive for a better future. I also purchased a copy of his book “A Human’s Guide to the Future” which I will donate to the school library, once I have completed reading it.

Dylan Alcott was a very entertaining speaker with a great story. As his audience was a room full of school administrators, he shared his struggles from his school days and living with his disability. He gave candid advice on how we can all help to improve the lives of all students, especially those with a form of disability. Whilst he has gone on to achieve remarkable sporting excellence in basketball and tennis his sole aim now is to help improve the lives of others through education, raising awareness and funds. I encourage to visit www.dylanalcottfoundation.com.au for more information.

Both of these gentlemen exude qualities of our patron St Stephen – courage, perseverance and service to others. I really enjoyed all aspects of the conference and look forward to sharing more knowledge with the St Stephen’s community in the future.

God Bless,

Hadyn Flynn
