A message from Early Stage 1
We would like to express our sincere gratitude for joining us in our celebration of 100 days of Kindergarten!
This term, we are delighted to welcome Lara Tait (KE) and Sophie Ward (KG) to our Kindergarten classrooms. Both Lara and Sophie are currently studying at the University of New England and will be completing a four week practicum with us. The Echidnas and Giraffes are thrilled to have them join our classes and look forward to the contributions they will make.
Miss Frizell is still seeking parent volunteers to help listen to students read in the Kindergarten Fish. Ideally, she is looking for assistance once a week for half an hour. If you are able to help, please email Miss Frizell. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
We are learning to:
hear and say the sounds /w/, /sh/, /qu/, /ee/, and /z/
orally segment and blend words containing 4 sounds
identify that 2 letters making one sound is called a digraph. For example, ‘ck’ makes the sound /k/ and ‘sh’ makes the sound /sh/
read tricky words: have, of, here, with, all, call, ball, tall, little
identify proper nouns in a range of contexts
use a capital letter at the beginning of a proper noun
identify verbs as words used to describe actions
identify verbs in oral and written texts.
We are learning to:
identify when we use addition and subtraction in our everyday lives
combine two or more groups of objects to show addition
take away a smaller number from the larger number to model subtraction
identify that length is the measure from end to end, from one point to another
identify half of a length
describe and compare the areas of similar 2D shapes.
We are learning to:
explain the meaning of ‘places’
identify different places
identify features of particular places
recognise that there are many different types of spaces which are used for different reasons.
We are learning to:
identify the characteristics of materials
select appropriate materials for specific purposes
identify how materials are combined for particular purposes
identify when materials have been combined to produce objects that we use in our lives.
We are learning to:
recognise that being respectful to others can support safety and wellbeing
identify and describe different families
share ideas about people who care for us, for example, parents/carers.
We are learning to:
explore and use materials, such as water soluble pastels and chalk pastels
use line, shape and colour to create artworks.
Home reading is an important part of your child’s learning. Please allow 10 minutes to listen to or read to your child each day. This time could also be used practising their ‘tricky words’.
Home readers and folders are returned each Friday and new ones are given to students the following Monday. We cannot send home a new reader if you have not returned a reading folder.
