Leader of Year 7 Wellbeing

Mrs Rachel O'Connor

Welcome back, Year 7 families!

It’s the start of Term 3, and our Year 7 students have returned with fresh energy, eager faces, and maybe a few taller frames after the break! As we settle into the second half of the year, we’re excited for the growth, learning, and memorable moments that lie ahead.

This term is an important one: students are building on the strong foundations from earlier in the year and beginning to dive deeper into subjects and skills that will carry them through high school. Whether it's refining their writing, cracking new maths concepts, or exploring creativity in the arts, there's something for everyone to shine in.

Socially, Year 7 continues to be a time of big transitions. Friendships are evolving, confidence is growing, and students are becoming more independent in managing timetables and responsibilities. We’re proud of the resilience and positivity they’re showing as they navigate these changes.

We encourage families to stay connected with us—reach out to teachers, check in with your child, and celebrate their successes (big or small). With teamwork between school and home, we can help each student make the most of this exciting chapter.

August Highlights & Community Spirit

August is BodyKind August, supported by the Butterfly Foundation—a wonderful opportunity to remind our students that everybody is unique and worthy of respect. Through classroom conversations and activities, we’re encouraging positive self-image, kindness, and confidence.

BodyKind encourages us to:

  • Speak kindly to our own bodies and care for them with compassion
  • Show respect and kindness to others, both online and offline
  • Celebrate the diversity that makes everybody unique

Last week, students participated in a heartfelt NAIDOC Week activity by creating hand artworks in honour of Aboriginal reconciliation. Each hand was coloured with the vibrant tones of the Aboriginal flag and now forms a powerful display in the hall—representing unity, acknowledgement, and growth.

This Friday, we celebrate the feast day of Mary MacKillop, Australia’s first canonised saint and a symbol of generosity, courage, and education. In her spirit, our Year 7 students are baking delicious cookies and brownies to raise funds for those attending the Australian Catholic Youth Festival in Melbourne later this year. A sweet cause indeed!

Please encourage your child to continue to support the College in our community events.
