 PBL

At SFS, our PBL (Positive Behaviours for Learning) school wide expectations are:

Respect,

Responsibility and

Kindness

For this week’s PBL lesson we have continued to  focus on RESPECT: Care for Self in all areas of the school.

The students learnt that when we look after ourselves, it builds our self confidence and helps us to focus on more positive things in life. Self-care is about taking the time to look after your body, your mind and your emotions. Making self-care part of your everyday routine helps you to feel more energised, confident and focused, but getting started can be difficult, especially when you’re really busy.

The children looked at different scenarios where they can practice self care and practiced what they can say and do in each situation.

e.g. Instead of coughing all over everyone at school, I can cough into my elbow and use hand sanitiser after I have coughed or sneezed and before I eat, or wash my hands.

If I am feeling sad when I get to school because I had a fight at home with my sibling, instead of yelling at someone and telling them to leave me alone, I can ask for some space. I can let my teacher know that I need some time to calm down and I can take some deep breaths.

Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships(RRR) Parent and Child activity night

This week we had our second Respectful relationships online parent and child workshop on the topic of Stress Management. Thanks to all the children and parents who came online for the workshop. It was wonderful to see parents and children interacting. We discussed what stress is, why it can be harmful and what we can do to help ourselves when we feel stressed. All students at SFS will be exploring this topic at school in Term 3 during SWAP specialist classes and during Circle Time in their home groups.

The RRRR learning materials include 8 Social and Emotional Learning topics across all levels of primary and secondary education:

  • Emotional Literacy
  • Personal Strengths
  • Positive Coping
  • Problem Solving
  • Stress Management
  • Help Seeking
  • Gender and Identity
  • Positive Gender Relationships.

If you have any questions or wonderings about the Respectful Relationships program, please do not hesitate to contact me at school or via email. Any parents who attended, I would love to hear your feedback on the session so I can improve on what we did and find out what was helpful.

You can use the following QR code to find the link to the Google Survey I created to fill out the feedback form. Thanks

Bullying No Way: National Wek of Action

Bullying No Way Week is returning 11–15 August 2025.

Bullying No Way Week is Australia's key bullying prevention initiative for schools. It provides an opportunity for schools to create a shared understanding about bullying behaviours and share their bullying prevention policies and strategies.

The national week of action unites government, Catholic and independent schools and their communities across the country. Together, we can foster practical approaches to prevent bullying in Australian schools.

2025 theme

The theme for 2025 is 'Be bold. Be kind. Speak up.'

It takes courage to spark change.

Bullying is everyone's responsibility. It takes a community to be brave and address bullying behaviours, within and beyond the school gate.

Students can be bold, kind and take a stand to support others being bullied. While parents and teachers are there to support children and young people learn how to behave in a positive way.

The students will be participating in the Kids Helpline Largest Anti bullying lesson that week and will have the opportunity to come to school dressed in the colour purple to help raise awareness of the importance of bullying prevention. Purple is the new hero colour representing Bullying No Way: National week of action and our commitment to standing against bullying. The students can come to school wearing a touch of purple on Monday 11th August.

In our community and in our school, we want a place where everyone can belong, a place that celebrates everyone, and where bullying is never accepted.

This Bullying No Way Week, we're asking students, schools, families and communities to be bold and say something, be kind and support someone, and be proud to take a stand against bullying.

Annual SFS Twilight Market

We will be having our annual SFS Twilight market this year on Thursday 6th November 2025. This is an event always enjoyed by our school community.

I am in the process of looking for stalls. The market will run from 5 pm to 8 pm. It is an outdoor market unless in the event of rain, will be held in the hall.

Brainstorm Productions: Being Brave theatre performance

When children experience changebullyingloss and other stressful life events, it can have a huge impact on their behaviour and wellbeing. They may worry about themselves, their families and the world.

Being Brave is a live show that gives students positive strategies to cope with emotions and adapt to change at school, at home and online. Fly is a young boy

whose parents have separated. He misses his dad desperately and tries to be brave by keeping his emotions ‘bottled up’. He meets Isha, who has been forced to come to a new country. Tim is being bullied and Billie is learning to face her fears. Mrs Russo wants to connect safely with her family online and Celia is coming to terms with loss in her family.

By connecting with the people in his community, Fly discovers the true meaning of being brave: sharing stories, showing feelings, keeping good memories and living life.

Researched and developed in consultation with teachers and psychologists, this live theatre in education program uses song, dance and storytelling to provide students with positive coping strategies.

Designed to support your school’s existing student wellbeing program and facilitate further learning in the classroom, Being Brave empowers children to seek help and face life’s challenges with confidence and compassion.

An Operoo notice will go out soon to parents for children to participate in this performance at school. Please ensure that you respond and accept the Operoo invitation for your child to watch the performance.

Lunchtime Clubs

We have a variety of different lunchtime clubs available for children to attend at lunchtime each day at school for Juniors and Seniors. The timetable is in the Morning Gathering each day. Lunchtime clubs offer numerous benefits for students, including enhanced social skills, increased engagement, and a sense of belonging. They provide a structured and supervised environment for students who may struggle with unstructured school playgrounds or desire quieter activities. These clubs can also foster friendships, reduce loneliness, and improve focus and concentration in the afternoon.

We offer the following lunchtime clubs this term, Art club, DT club, Garden grubs, Fire carriers, Senior Choir, Athletics training, Lego club, Minni Vinnies and Rosary.

I am available at school Monday to Thursday. If any parents have a wellbeing concern they would like to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact me at school or send me an email rlenko@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au
