Inquiry Learning:  Tuning In to Transformation

Our students launched into an exciting new Inquiry unit, exploring the big idea of Transformation — how change can bring about growth, fairness, and hope in our world. Our guiding question:How can the changes we experience as Pilgrims of Hope transform us and the world?

Throughout the first weeks of term, students developed the skills of Noticing and Wondering as they observed, asked questions, made predictions, and began to connect personal values with global issues.

Here’s a snippet of what we explored of different subject areas:

Geography – Understanding Change Around the World:Students were introduced to the concept of transformation through community stories and global images. They discussed fairness and needs in different parts of the world and began building a Transformation Timeline as a class.

Clean Water Access:By studying graphs and maps, students investigated global access to safe drinking water. They asked thoughtful geographical questions and worked in pairs to begin researching one of the countries featured in the data.

Chemical Science – Exploring Materials:Students examined natural and processed materials, discovering how transformation occurs through melting, mixing, and setting. From melting ice cubes in teams to preparing jelly together, they learned how physical changes can be observed, recorded, and explained.

Reflection & Kindness:At the end of the week, students paused to reflect on what they had learned — what surprised them, what they were proud of, and how they had grown through acts of kindness. This week’s action focus was Transformation through Kindness, and many students shared heartfelt examples of small actions making a big difference.

As the term unfolds, we look forward to continuing this journey — learning more about our world and discovering how each of us can be a part of creating positive change.

NAIDOC Week at St Francis de Sales!

This week St Francis de Sales celebrated NAIDOC Week! This year marks 50 years of NAIDOC celebrations and the theme is; the Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy. We began the week with a liturgy which was run by our FIRE Carriers. Each space came up to share what strength, vision and legacy means to them, and their insights were detailed and very moving. To end, the whole school sang John Farnham’s song; You’re The Voice, which was incredible for all to hear!

During lunchtimes the FIRE Carriers helped to run a colouring, bracelet making and Marngrook kicking competition. Congratulations to Lucas from the Juniors and Curtis from the seniors for winning the competition!

MUSIC THIS TERM

In Music classes this term, the Seniors have started to brainstorm and plan a commercial song jingle in small groups.

They will be composing their own song jingles in order to sell a product to a specific audience.

Seniors have started to understand music, rhythm and rhyme, written in a persuasive format, has the ability to influence audiences to purchase an advertised product.

The Juniors have been immersed in rhythm and beat, using body percussion and various un-tuned percussion instruments to enhance their understanding.  Students will be learning folk dances and songs from different cultures & countries from around the world.
