Visual Art

Foundation Visual Arts
Students practiced drawing with different types of lines, straight, curved, and zigzag to express movement in the form of cartoon characters. They experimented with primary colours and continued to develop their fine motor skills by cutting along the lines they drew and creating paper shapes. The students then glued their cuttings on to the landscapes they drew.
Year 1 Visual Arts
Students began their term by drawing up cartoon characters and houses using different types of lines, straight, curved, and zigzag to form cartoon characters. They experimented with primary colours and drew up a landscape of grass, trees and sky. The students then continued to develop their fine motor skills by cutting their cartoon characters out and glueing them onto their landscapes. There was plenty of discussion and excitement over their results.
Year 2 Visual Arts
Students were invited to sit on the carpet after which they were given a paper cup. The teacher then went around and put a handful of packing pellets into the cup and gave them masking tape.
At this point the students were asked to use their imagination and make something. At first the students sat and stared at each other but it didn’t take long before they began creating. Each student had a different story to tell about their creations.
‘I made a unicorn’
‘I just made a thing’
‘I made a rabbit’
‘I had a lot of fun’
‘I made an aeroplane’
Year 3 Visual Arts
Week 1 saw Year 3 students exploring the concept of construction in art by discussing their ideas and thoughts about it. They learned about how cardboard is made, which inspired their upcoming 3D projects. Students then followed instructions to begin creating an infinity fidget, building their fine motor skills and understanding of paper construction techniques. This hands-on experience saw the student excited and focused. This activity will continue to the next lesson.
“This is fun.”
“I find it hard to cut sometimes”
“I am excited that I am going to make a 3D DIY toy to play with”
Year 4 Visual Arts
Year 4 have began the term by revisiting our Visual Arts guidelines and thinking critically about the theme of construction. After watching an informative video on cardboard production, students engaged in making an infinity fidget—a project that combines careful cutting, folding, and assembly. This activity saw the students manipulating materials and developing practical skills. They will continue this activity in the next session.
Year 5 Visual Arts
In Year 5, students started by reviewing classroom expectations and reflecting on last term’s artworks. They then explored the theme of construction, gaining insight into sustainable materials by watching a video about cardboard manufacturing. Following this, they began crafting an infinity fidget, which develops their precision, patience, and problem-solving skills. They will continue to finish this activity in the next session.
Year 6 Visual Arts
Year 6 students commenced the term by discussing classroom expectations and sharing reflections on previous artistic achievements. Their focus then shifted to the theme of construction within the arts. After watching videos detailing cardboard production and practical applications and a video on how to construct an infinity fidget the students began creating their own, this saw them exploring 3D construction techniques and functional design. This project supports the development of precision cutting, measurement, patience, and problem-solving skills.
‘Can we take them home?’
‘Once I understood, it was easy to cut’
‘Hope we finish next week’
