Foundation
The Foundation cohort began the term by developing their soccer skills, with a particular focus on learning how to kick the ball using the inside of their foot. Students practised their kicking technique through a series of partner drills, aiming to pass the ball with control and accuracy. They also played fun kicking games that encouraged them to focus on correct foot placement and body positioning when striking the ball. The session allowed them to build confidence in their ability to kick effectively while also developing teamwork skills.
Quotes:
FC:
Isaac: I like kicking the soccer ball!
Olivia: I love kicking!
Year 1
Year 1 students were introduced to two key basketball skills – chest passing and dribbling. They explored how to use both hands to control the basketball while moving, learning to keep the ball low and close to their body to maintain control. Students practised chest passes with partners, focusing on using correct hand positioning and stepping towards their target for accuracy. To finish the lesson, students participated in small group activities that combined passing and dribbling, helping them to apply these new skills in a fun and interactive way.

Year 2
Year 2 students worked on developing their overarm throwing technique. They practised in pairs, aiming for accuracy and power, and were encouraged to step forward with their opposite foot when throwing. The highlight of the session was a game called Stump Destroy, where students aimed to knock over cricket stumps by throwing from different distances. This game encouraged them to combine power with accuracy while working with a partner or small group to achieve a common goal. Students showed improvement in their coordination and ability to adjust their throws to hit the target.

Year 3
Year 3 students were introduced to AFL football this week, with a focus on two essential skills – handballing and marking. They practised handballing to targets and to moving partners, aiming to hit the ball cleanly with their hands while keeping control. Students also learned basic marking techniques, concentrating on how to position their bodies and use their hands to safely catch the ball. To conclude the session, students played the Climb the Ladder handball game, which challenged their accuracy and teamwork as they worked together to progress up the ladder.

Year 4
Year 4 students focused on soccer and the introduction of gameplay strategies to improve their understanding of team play. Through activities like Cone Soccer and Team Cone Soccer, they learned how to pass and move into space, create scoring opportunities, and work together as a team. The games encouraged students to communicate and make quick decisions, all while refining their passing, dribbling, and defensive skills. These sessions are helping the cohort to build a deeper understanding of soccer tactics and how to apply them in game scenarios.

Year 5
Year 5 students began their Hot Shots Tennis unit, which aims to introduce them to the fundamentals of the game through fun, modified activities. Students learned about and practised the drop serve, forehand strike, and backhand strike. They worked on rallying with a partner, focusing on controlling the ball over the net and positioning themselves correctly on the court. Small tennis games allowed students to begin applying their skills in match-like situations, helping them to understand the flow of a tennis game while building confidence with each stroke.

Year 6
Year 6 students started their basketball unit by revising their fundamental skills, including shooting and dribbling. They worked on controlling the ball while dribbling and using proper technique when taking set shots. The highlight of the session was a fast-paced relay shooting race, where students combined speed, accuracy, and teamwork to complete the challenge. This activity allowed students to showcase what they remembered about basketball from previous years, while also identifying areas for improvement as they prepare for more advanced gameplay in the coming weeks.
