Year 9 Career Taster Program
Building and Construction – SMTAFE Rockingham
Sixteen Year 9 students recently participated in a Career Taster Program at Rockingham TAFE, exploring opportunities within the building and construction industry.
Throughout the day, students engaged in hands-on activities across a range of trades, including bricklaying, gyprocking, and tiling. Guided by TAFE lecturers, students were challenged to complete practical tasks and gain insight into what a future career in these trades could look like.
A big thank you to Mr McNulty and Ms Osborne for supporting and accompanying the students on the day.
Looking ahead to next term, we have two exciting new opportunities at North Metropolitan TAFE campuses.
Song Factory (Leederville Campus) – A taster experience in the music industry.
Animation 3D Graphic Design & Computer Skills (Northbridge Campus) – A program focused on digital design and creative tech
Students interested in participating should speak to Mr Johns or check the notices on SEQTA.

Careers Expo at Byford Secondary College
On Friday in Week 9, the Shire of Serpentine and Jarrahdale held their annual Careers Expo at Byford Secondary College.
Students from Years 9, 10, and 11 attended, with Year 9 students participating for the first time. They had the opportunity to engage in meaningful, first-hand conversations with universities and industry professionals. These interactions help students make informed decisions about their future pathways and begin shaping a plan for their personal career journeys.
We are very fortunate as a college to have access to such a valuable event so close to home. With the strong support of college leadership, it’s fantastic to see how much time and opportunity our students receive on their career development journey at Salvado Catholic College.
In Term 3, we’re excited to offer two more career taster experiences specifically for Year 9 students—both delivered through North Metro TAFE, which is a first for our college. These opportunities will open even more doors and potential career pathways for Salvado students to explore.
The tasters on offer include:
Song Factory (Leederville) – an introduction to the music industry
3D Animation and Graphics – a look into digital design and animation
If you are interested in attending, please respond to the notice on SEQTA or speak to Mr Johns.
A big thank you to all staff who attended the Careers Expo and supported our students in their career exploration journey.
