On Thursday the 24th of July, 13 girls represented our school at the Division Soccer Tournament held at the Darebin Sports Complex. This event brought together some of the best school teams in the area in a highly competitive three-way round-robin format. 

St Martin of Tours, Rosanna (winner of the Heidelberg District), St Anthony's, Alphington (winner of the Ivanhoe District) and St Mary's, Greensborough (Winner of the Watsonia District) were all to play each other to find the winner of the Banyule District.  

About half of the team had already made their mark last term, playing a key role in our school’s triumphant campaign at the Division round-robin. Their experience, combined with the energy and determination of new teammates, created a team that was both resilient and cohesive.

Across the day, our girls played two tightly contested games. Both of which ended in hard-fought draws. With no outright winner determined by match points, the final result came down to goal difference. Thanks to our positive attacking play and solid teamwork, our school came out on top, winning the day on the number of goals scored.

This win secures the girls a well-deserved place in the Regional Finals, which will be held on Wednesday the 14th of August. Reaching this stage is a remarkable achievement for any school team, but what makes this accomplishment even more special is that only one of the girls currently plays soccer for a club outside of school. 

This is a testament to the team’s spirit, work ethic, and their ability to support one another on and off the field. Each player contributed with heart, grit, and a strong sense of unity. The girls never dropped their intensity, giving their all from the first whistle to the final moments of each game.

In the lead-up to the Regionals, the team will continue to train and refine their skills through Friday Interschool Sport. This will give them valuable opportunities to strengthen their teamwork, build confidence, and prepare for what promises to be a thrilling challenge ahead.

We are incredibly proud of this group. Not just for what they’ve achieved, but for the way they’ve represented our school with integrity, sportsmanship, and pride. We wish them the very best of luck for the Regional Tournament!
