STUDENTS OF THE WEEK

FOUNDATION NEWS

Foundation Term 3, Week 3 100 Days of Brilliance!

What a milestone! In Foundation, we have officially completed our first 100 days of school and what a joyful celebration it was!

In the lead-up to the big day, we have been counting down and preparing with growing excitement. Finally, the day arrived, and we came dressed as the most delightful 100-year-olds you’ve ever seen-complete with walking sticks, glasses, grey hair, curlers, cardigans and more!

As we arrived at the school gates, we were greeted by three very special guests: the glamorous Glam-Ma Marsico, the wise Nonna Wenckowski, and the sprightly lawn bowler Lady Sargent. There were plenty of giggles, lots of photos, and a heap of fun as we made our way into our beautifully decorated classrooms, ready for a day of celebration.

We kicked off the day with a whole-school parade in the hall, where as 100-year-olds, we proudly marched in front of the school and were then presented with a certificate to celebrate becoming 100 Days Brighter! Afterwards, the fun continued with a game of "Would You Rather?" with some tough and silly choices: Would you rather 100 chocolates or 100 lollies? OR Would you rather 100 snakes or 100 spiders?!

We practised counting to 100 in lots of fun ways and then launched into the 100 Second Tower Challenge to see who could build the tallest tower in just 100 seconds! Meanwhile, Mrs Monaghan and our amazing parent helper Maria worked their maths magic with a hands-on cooking activity, helping us to measure, mix, and ice delicious cupcakes decorated with, of course, hundreds and thousands!

As writers, we reflected on our imaginations and dreams with prompts like: “When I’m 100…” and “I would like 100…” Our ideas were creative, funny and thoughtful, just like us! We wrapped up the day with a well-earned dance party and a party bag to celebrate this special moment. It was a day full of joy, laughter and pride.

We are so incredibly proud of each and every Foundation student and everything they have achieved in their first 100 days of school.

A special congratulations also to our amazing families - you did it too! Thank you for your unwavering support, generosity and kindness throughout these first months. We are so lucky to have such a strong and caring community.

The day was made even more special as we also celebrated Mrs Wenckowski’s birthday, a double milestone for one of our most loved and dedicated teachers. We are so lucky to have her in Foundation and were thrilled to celebrate alongside her!

We’d also like to thank Anastasia and Damien Spyrou for the incredible 100 Days cake from Village Bakery. Not only did it look amazing, but it tasted absolutely delicious. We are so grateful for your generosity!

Now, we look forward to the excitement of our upcoming school concert this Thursday. We have been working hard on our dance and can’t wait to perform for you. Please see below for a reminder of their costume.

YEAR 1/2

Hello everyone! What a great second week we have had in grade 1/2! So many great opportunities to learn new things and engage in fun experiences

Kitchen Chemistry Incursion

Last Friday, we had a visit from Mad About Science for a super fun Kitchen Chemistry incursion. As researchers, we became little scientists and learned all about food-related chemicals. We used everyday items like vinegar, baking soda and even cabbage juice to explore chemical reactions. We watched things fizz, bubble and change colour right in front of our eyes! It was exciting to see how different materials react when mixed together. A favourite part was watching the colours change with cabbage juice – it was like magic! Kitchen Chemistry was messy, exciting, and full of science surprises!

The Resilience Project

This week in The Resilience Project, we became thoughtful thinkers and learned about our heart strengths. These are the special qualities and attributes that make us great people. We spoke about what makes each of us unique - like being kind, brave, honest, or helpful. We discovered that when we use our heart strengths, we not only feel proud, but we help others feel appreciated and valued too. It was a lovely way to reflect on who we are and how we can make the world a better place just by being our best selves. Look out for our wonderful heart artwork that will decorate our learning street soon!

Maths

In Maths, we have been learning all about 2D shapes. As thinkers, we explored regular and irregular polygons and looked closely at shapes with parallel lines. We had fun naming and sorting shapes, and finding out what makes them the same or different. Some shapes had equal sides, and some looked a little wonky - but they were all interesting! We also used 2D shapes to create, continue, and describe shape patterns. It was fun making colourful patterns using triangles, squares, hexagons and parallelograms.

YEAR 5/6

It’s been a fantastic week of learning, discovery, and reflection in our Year 5/6 space!

As inquirers, we conducted balloon experiments as part of our science learning. We made predictions, observed, and analysed the results to deepen our understanding of forces and motion. It was exciting to test our ideas and see science in action! We will continue to explore how materials and matter change over time, with lots of hands-on investigations still to come.

As writers, we investigated the structure and features of science reports. We focused on using scientific language. We’re learning how to communicate our scientific findings effectively.

As people of faith, we explored the Fruits and Gifts of the Holy Spirit, reflecting on how these guide our actions, decisions, and relationships. We discussed ways we can live these out in our daily lives, both at school and at home.

A special moment for Year 6 Students-

On Friday, the Year 6s participated in our Confirmation Retreat Day. This was a time to pause, reflect, and prepare our hearts for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Through prayer, conversation, and creative activities, we explored what it means to be led by the Holy Spirit on our faith journey.

School Concert – Next Thursday!

A friendly reminder that our School Concert is happening next Thursday! We are sure that everyone has their costumes ready to go. If you are unsure about your child’s costume or are unable to attend the concert, please reach out to your child’s teacher as soon as possible. We’ve been practising hard for our performance and are incredibly excited to share it with you all!

We’re proud of the way we’re growing as thinkers, writers, performers, and people of faith. We look forward to another fantastic week ahead!

Childrens Reference Group

On Friday, five Year 5 students were selected to engage in the Merri-Bek Children’s Forum, this is where they engaged in many opportunities to provide feedback to the council about what they can make better. The highlights were of course, the food, however, they also got to learn about the Merri Creek, Libraries and design Merri Bek in the future.
