French News

Bonjour Parents and Students!
Welcome to our first French newsletter of Term 3! Each term, we’ll be sharing what our students have been learning in French across the school. From introducing themselves to learning about French culture, students are building their language skills step by step – and having lots of fun along the way!
Here’s a snapshot of what each year level has been working on so far:
Prep
Our Prep students have started learning how to introduce themselves in French. They can now say “Je m'appelle…” and “J’ai 6 ans.” We’ve also started exploring fruit names in French – ask your child how to say apple, banana, or strawberry!
Grade 1
Grade 1 students made a very nice drawing to showcase their holiday, they then revisited how to talk about their name, age, and birthday. We’ve also discovered some French food words – many are cognates, which means they look similar to English words!
Grade 2
In Grade 2, we’ve been learning to name and describe classroom objects using colours. Students have been practising two sentence structures:
- “Dans la classe, il y a…” (In the classroom, there is…)
- “C’est…” (It is…)They’ve done a great job using the correct gender and matching colours.
Grade 3
Grade 3 students have been working on adjectives and gender agreement, and they’ve created amazing descriptions of their own superheroes! We’ve also been learning the names of some wild animals in French.
Grade 4
Grade 4 has been focusing on the verb être (to be) and can now say I am, you are, he is, she is in French. We’ve also expanded our list of -ER verbs and continued practising adjective agreement in full sentences.
Grade 5/6
Our senior students have been busy designing creative Bastille Day posters to promote the celebration across the school. Soon, we’ll vote for our favourites and display the winning ones around the school! We’ve also revised the important verbs être (to be) and avoir (to have).
🎉 Mark your calendars!
Week 4 – Friday 15 August is our school’s Bastille Day celebration. Get ready to get excited – vive la France!
