Grade 6 Community News

We hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday break! It has been wonderful to welcome all our Grade 6 students back to school for the start of Term 3. There is a great buzz of energy in the classroom, and we are already impressed with how quickly everyone has settled back into routines.
Reading:
Over the next few weeks, our read to learn unit is all about world deserts. Students have been exploring the unique features of desert environments, learning how animals and plants adapt to survive in such extreme conditions.
We’ve also been investigating different deserts from around the world, comparing their climates, landscapes, and ecosystems. To showcase their understanding, students created informative and eye-catching posters highlighting the incredible adaptations of desert animals and plants.
Writing:
In Writing, our current focus is on brochures. Students are learning about the key features that make brochures effective, including persuasive language, layout, and visual elements.
We’ve also been developing our research skills by learning how to find reliable information and resources to support our writing. Students are now applying this knowledge to design their own informative and visually engaging brochures on a topic of their choice.
It’s been a great opportunity to combine creativity with clear communication!
Maths:
In Maths, we are currently working on fractions. Students have been learning how to add and subtract fractions with both related and unrelated denominators. We've also been exploring how to work with mixed numeral fractions, including how to add, subtract, and simplify them.
This unit is helping students strengthen their number sense and develop a deeper understanding of how fractions work in everyday contexts.
