Secondary 11/12

Term 2

Year 11

This term Secondary 11A was at Brunswick Industries, the students have been participating in warehousing activities such as folding towels, creating labels and filling bottles. They also took part in an induction process and learned about what to do in an emergency situation in the workplace.

Secondary 11B got to participate in work experience at Endeavour Foundation. Students joined in a supported work environment, organising and packing products for supermarkets. They worked as part of a team with peers and workers to complete a group work task. This also included a strong focus on time management and workplace conduct.

Secondary 11C visited Imagine Re-Evolution during which they made numerous different items, having some freedom to let creative minds flow and re-invent previously donated items into brand new creations.

Secondary 11D were charged with running the Bunnings Sausage Sizzle at the Mill Park Bunnings. Students were able to run the show by the end of term, shopping for supplies, setting up the station, cooking the sausages and serving customers. It was a lovely chance to engage with the community as well as seeing some former students’ parents and current parents, such a privilege to have Concord connected visitors.

Year 12

This term the Year 12 students have been working on the Life Hacks and Savvy Savings unit. Students have worked through a Ready Steady Cook Challenge where they planned a meal, wrote a shopping list and ensured they were sticking to a budget. Students purchased items and then cooked up meals by following the recipes. The meals were served to the leadership team and they scored based on a criteria.

We had a day of life skills where students worked in groups to learn about hygiene, making hot drinks, washing and making the bed. Most students found the day very informative and took away some new skills which we hope they are sharing at home.

Our final project for this term was the Showcase event where students chose and presented a life skill of their choice. This was a chance for the students to take ownership of their learning and present the information to a wider audience in a variety of ways. It was great to see the students collaborating and negotiating with their peers and visitors.
